Title: Can someone please explain what aswEngSrv.exe is exactly?
Post by: EmoHobo on April 10, 2019, 02:44:32 PM
Why is it now a separate process running as part of avast and why when it's not being used does it use up more memory than some programs that are actively running?  I literally can't find anything online about it other than it's part of avast and it handles file scanning now, that's it.  When a company releases something, doesn't mention it in the patch notes, doesn't mention it in any updates, it's a bit shady and Avast is known for sliding things onto your system as well as just being full of bloat.

I've been using Avast for years, seriously since like 2005 or so, it's my preferred antivirus, even after all the issues it's had, it's becoming harder and harder to recommend to people despite using it myself and things like this without proper communication only hurt your reputation, so please can someone explain this to me.
