Title: avast! 4.x Home on two home computers
Post by: kpgduras on August 06, 2006, 10:57:00 AM
Hi

We have two computers at home on a wireless network.  Both have XPHome OS.  Both (at the moment) have Norton installed.  My son's computer's AV will expre in a month and he wants to install avast! 4.x Home.  As my Norton products don't expire for quite some time can we install avast! 4.x Home just on my son's and leave the Norton on mine for a few months?  Or, because the computers are on a network, do both have to have the same AV?

Regards

No, you can keep Norton, and your son can have Avast. Only thing that you mustn't have is two AV software installed on same computer, because they tend to get in each other's way. So, first uninstall Norton, then install Avast.

The most important thing is that your son remove all traces of NAV it can be a pig to remove everything. A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2001092114452606&nsf=nav.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=)

Thanks to DavidR and hlloyge for your replies - my son will be happy and hopefully I will follow him in a few months.

Best wishes
