Title: Avast blocks boot time disk check. Error 3f1.
Post by: elkinm on April 23, 2019, 03:07:54 PM
I have not been able to run a boot time disk check on C: in about a month. This appears to be the case on any machine running Avast.
It says Cannot open volume for direct access. Then about a recently installed program and then error code 3f1.

I have tried disabling all shields, disabling boot, or rootkit scans, but nothing has been able to get past the error. The only way to fix it is to completely uninstall Avast and then the disk check works. As soon as I reinstall Avast the problem continues.

I am running Windows 7 Professional on all machines with the error, but I am not sure if only 7 is affected.

Thank you.

After looking in the forums I found this post about the same issue. It states that it should be fixed in version 19.4. I did search for 3f1 and could not find the post before.

Has anybody discovered a way to run a disk check without completely uninstalling Avast? Thanks.

Thanks, when I got home, I was prompted to update to the latest 19.4 version. I did and chkdisk now works like it should.
