Title: Avast not WORKING ! Help !
Post by: hannon31 on April 28, 2019, 06:46:24 AM
Guys,

All of a sudden, my Avast has stopped working today. I have version 18.8.4084.409 running on Windows XP SP3.

When I sign on to windows, I get an error on loadup telling me that something is corrupt in my Avast folder and that I should run chkdsk.

I tried to repair avast, but when I click on repair, nothing happens.

When I try to run Avast, I get :

UI failed to load
AV service not responding

I press restart, and nothing happens.

I also get RPC server not available when I try to run the update.

It was working fine yesterday, so I do not know what could have happened ? I have not done anything or made any changes to my computer.

Can someone please shed some light on this problem for me ?

Thanks in advance !

Yes, I did the steps exactly and it didn't work. I get the same error message on Windows startup :

avast\setup\setup.ini is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk

Well, run chkdsk - maybe your drive is getting buggy...

It must have been quite buggy, as my running of chkdsk has seemed to have solved the Avast problem.  :) Whew !

After this I would check the harddisk with a tool like HDTune. Maybe there are defect sectors.

Hope you have an image backup so that if your HD fails, you have a way to recoup.
