Title: Free licence of Avast expired, unable to re-activate
Post by: jaje on May 26, 2019, 09:52:40 PM
Hello,
As title says, I cannot re-activate the licence of Avast Free anymore, I used to be able to do so in the past by re-activating and select free version. Did I miss something? New Avast rule that is free only for 2 years and then you're forced to buy? How can I re-activate for another 2 years?

Since you have AIS it isn't so simple as you say "I cannot re-activate the licence of Avast Free anymore."

First have to have to go through the process to Uninstall AIS, during this process you should get the option to revert to avast free.

Hi jaje,

Please see the "Switch back to Avast Free Antivirus" section of this support article (https://support.avast.com/article/12/#idt_020) if you need step-by-step instructions for how to perform the process DavidR described.

Hello.

I have a similar issue, but I'm running Avast Free Antivirus, not Internet Security. My free license has expired and I'm stuck with all the notifications about renewing it.

I get this in the license menu:

Been there, done that. And now the screen that I see is what I linked above. Something went wrong.

I believe I have seen a work around in the forums, I can't recall the topic:
Try going to the Control Panel > Programs & Features > Avast Antivirus > Change, I believe that it was in this screen that there is an Activate button.

I'm afraid I don't see any such button:

I believe you've to click the CHANGE button to see what DavidR is talking about.

While you are there CHANGE the default install option to CUSTOM, change it from Recommended Protection, select only what you require, i.e., File Shield, Behavior Shield, Web Shield, Mail Shield, and anything else you think you need.  Deselect what you don't and what you don't want to pay for.

As well as not receive adds for components you have not installed.

My experience to date, running Avast Premier with "only" the components I want installed (via CUSTOM INSTALL) is that I have not and do not receive adds for components not installed.
I can't speak to anyone else's experience. :)
