Title: Is Mac App Store Safe ?
Post by: Faguo1502 on June 27, 2019, 03:28:46 PM
Hello, I just bought from the Mac App Store a software to clean my disk drive, and when downloading it, Avast blocked and quarantined the new software because of infection MacOS:Tuneupmac-A [Tool].

My question is : is it possible that Avast made a mistake, or does it mean that the Mac App Store is not safe ? Should I ask Apple for reimbursement ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Faguo1502,

This particular detection does not mean that the software is malicious, but is instead a Potentially Unwanted Program. This typically means that the software is identified as performing actions that many users find undesirable (for example, software that installs browser toolbars or re-directors, or features excessive pop-ups would classified as a PUP).

If you would like to disable the PUP detections, please open Avast Security > click "Preferences" on the bottom left of the window > click the "Settings" link under File Shield > un-check the "Report potentially unwanted programs (PUP)" option.
