Title: Avast Password synch devices: weird and unknown?!
Post by: isabeau777 on July 05, 2019, 06:47:04 AM
Hello everyone!  :)
My Avast Password on mobile, in Parameters, in section Synchronisation shows me all my synchronised devices.

1) But the names are weird. What are those names? I searched on google but found only web sites about routing devices. But mine are not rooted.
- What is "heroltebmc" device?
- What is "jfltev⁸l" ?
- "dream2qltevl" : it says it is my device, so i suppose it means Samsung S8+ ?
- Where can i find the signification of those names?
- Is it possible to change the way devices are named?

2) It seems there is a unknown device.
There is a Second device with the same name "dream2qltevl"
than my Samsung 8. How come?
- Is it a neighbour's device entered in my network?!

=> I have some indicators giving me the impression i am being hacked. So... Could it be from that device, showing the same name than mine?? (I know that a hacker could change the name of his device. Maybe to rule my vigilance? Or to rule vigilance of my Avast?)

I have Avast Mobile Security Pro, Avast Passwords, Avast Cleanup, Avast Secure Line Vpn, on my mobiles and on my laptop and others from Avast on my laptop (drivers, etc).

Thanks a lot to help me! 🙂
Isa

Hi isabeau777,

I'm sorry for the delay in responding to you.

1) These are factory names set by the manufacturer, and they are not chosen by Passwords but pulled from the device itself. I'm afraid that it is not currently possible to change the device names in Avast Passwords, but you can find which model of phone they refer to by googling them.
2) It is extremely unlikely that the second "dream2qltevl" is a neighbor's device, due to how the verification steps required to synchronize a new device. Instead, duplicate names like this usually occur when a device is un-synchronized (typically by the Passwords app being uninstalled), and then synchronized again at a later date. This happens because uninstalling the app often does not remove the device from the list of synchronized devices, and the Passwords system does not recognize it as the same device when it is synchronized again - so you will be shown two devices with the same name.

You can remove the duplicate device from within the Passwords app. I would advise doing this from the Samsung Galaxy S8+, so you know which name is the duplicate. To do this, please open the Passwords app > tap the Menu icon in the top right of the screen (the three dots) > tap "Settings" > tap "Synchronization & Back-up" > tap the duplicate device name (the current device is listed at the top and says (this device) underneath the name) > tap the "Remove samsung dream2qltevl" button > tap "Remove and Delete Data" to confirm.
