Title: "File Access Denied" issue - after over 1 hour with support I solved it myself
Post by: Hud2 on July 08, 2019, 07:54:47 PM
Hello. I just spent over an hour on the phone to Avast support trying to solve a "file access denied" issue. Basically after installing and using Avast I was suddenly no longer able to move or delete any file on my computer - the error message: file access denied: you need permission to perform this action.

I thought it was some kind of registry issue, but when I clicked on properties/security of any file all the permissions were still allowed. So it didn't make sense.

Despite the person at Avast support including a 'senior technician' on my call, with remote access to my PC, they were unable to resolve this issue, but kept offering me the opportunity to pay for the privilege of solving the issue which Avast had caused in the first place. In the end, with no resolution offered, I tried to resolve it myself. Fairly quickly I realised it was down to the Ransomware shield. As soon as I turned this off, I could move and delete my files again.

Which begs the question: how come Avast technical support didn't know this?

Unfortunately you have encountered 3rd party support and they have a very limited set of issues that they are allowed to handle in the free support side.

But as you found they are happy to push their premium support package.  Which given the failure earlier, I too would wonder how they could up their game because you had paid.

I have the same issue, even with Ransomware Shield disabled.
"Access to file is Denied" when I try to shred an .mkv file on my desktop.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Running Windows 10 updated to latest state. Also have CCleaner installed.
