This is highly unusual on occasion my xp system will show the last coule of defs upsates and some of the streams. Generally if that happens there are 2 defs sub-folders that have the full database (house keeping should hive off old sub-folders) my defs folder is about 380MB not GB.
I would also suggest an Avast Repair.
Do you have the virus definitions update set to Automatic ?
I take it you leave your computer on all of the time ?
If so I would suggest a full windows restart as I believe this is the time when avast clears up these old folders (it appears to do this on my XP system).

If it really is a machine it can take a long time without shutting down, I'm going to schedule the restart and I'm telling you, thanks

You're welcome, hopefully that should bring down the number of sub-folders in the defs folder.

Carlos812 Could you create/submit a support package first, as decribed here? https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Submit-support-file
I'd like to know what was inside those folders and why is was left there.
Thanks.
