Title: New Version 19.6 (June, 2019)
Post by: Tom_798 on August 04, 2019, 02:05:51 PM
Hi- would it be possible to permanently disable the monthly automatically scheduled Smart Scan?  I see a check box with the check ticked every time Smart Scan is finished.  I have to manually uncheck it after the scan finishes every time .
  Thank you

Smart Scan is an on demand scan it isn't scheduled unless you set it up that way.

Not entirely correct, previously if you happen to run it, afterwards the run this as a scheduled scan was checked.

However, I have just run it, but that didn't come up at the end, possibly because Avast was busy trying to sell me stuff.

At least they offered an Ignore button. :)

Yes, but even if they didn't, this is a cropped image of the full window and you would just have to X it out.

I ran a smart scan last week and I think I got two of these extra screens with scaremongering and upselling I had to navigate through. That is just sad. Avast adds a leaner scan, and then bloats it back up again with this nonsense.

Also: there is great irony in this message about having your location exposed, while Avast just exposed a streamer.

Short answer don't run the 'not so' smart scan.  Ordinarily I don't run on-demand scans including the smart scan outside of beta testing and forum questions.

Simply ignore that part of the s can that relates to the paid product if you are using the free version of Avast.
It's been mentioned numerous times.

Back when Avast foisted the brand spanking new Smart Scan on us as the only option possible to be front and center on the main screen, instead of the full scan, I modified the Smart Scan to be in effect a full scan.

These days I rarely do extra scans anymore. Well, from the context menu on files or folders. That I use quite a bit still. But not from the main program.

But for what remains, I see little point in running it at all.  The same as other on-demand scans, they bring very little to the party.

It can be mentioned numerous times, but there are hundreds of millions of avast users and how many have visited the forums and even know about that.  Very few I would guess in the scale of things.  For the most parts it is users that are disappointed with the subterfuge in the smart scan that arrive at the forums to complain.

There is no Attach Icon, just the "Attachments and other options" below the reply/text window.

Click to expand and attach your image.

Image brackets should also work if used properly.

Ok so Attachments and other options NOW works when I hover over it, in my post above I did try hovering but it did not change to underlined.
Now img brackets do they work with picture on my PC ? , or do I need to upload it somewhere ?
I still would prefer Not to see I am Exposed see screenshot attached. ( slide right )
I still have not found the button to change smart scan "Monthly" to none.
"Some-timers"

It has always done so on my browser when you hover over it.
But even then it requires that you click it to expand it.

As Bob said you have to use the correct format, but it does need to be somewhere were you can link to it, so yes it would need to be uploaded somewhere.  That is why I feel is using the  "Attachments and other options" is he easier option.

If you have Avast Free, that is the price you pay, just ignore it.  If you have a paid version of avast you can disable these offers.

I still have not found the button to change smart scan "Monthly" to none.
"Some-timers"

When you run the Smart Scan, from memory at the end of it there is a field indication to run this scan monthly, uncheck that box.

You're welcome

I have the paid version but have not found the disable button

Check the Avast Menu > Settings and I think the paid users have a Privacy section or Personal Privacy within the General section.

<snip>
I have unchecked the box many times but each time I scan it is checked again.

I have only ever done this once and the Smart Scan has never run since.  I don't know of any other option to kill it.

You could try the Avast geek:area in the Menu > Settings, click on the search icon and type geek:area

See attached images.
