Title: Question: about hardened mode
Post by: Kees1958 on September 17, 2019, 11:51:51 PM
Hi,

I have not used Avast for years, so probably have missed some innovations. Anyway wanted to install for an elder family member, but could not find AGGRESSIVE hardened mode.

Is there only one hardened mode nowadays or am I overlooking something in UI?

When there is only one hardened mode, do you have a link explaining what it does (or where it can be compared with)?

Thanks

Kees

The current UI in my humble opinion is a bloody mess and not very intuitive.

Open the UI > Menu > Settings > General > Troubleshooting -  scroll down to the bottom and select 'Open old settings.'

When this is open in the General tab there is another section for the Hardened mode and that allows you to select Aggressive.

The 'Open old settings' is/was meant to be a stop gap whilst the UI is further optimised, we are yet to see any such optimisation or intuitive layout.

To make it worse there is even another hidden area in the form of the geek:area - See https://support.avast.com/article/Use-Antivirus-Avast-Geek (https://support.avast.com/article/Use-Antivirus-Avast-Geek) for more information on that.

Another fine mess 'Ollie.'

I frankly don't understand why Hardened Mode doesn't have Moderate and Aggressive Modes available in new interface by default. Moderate has always been useless because it was actually too aggressive and blocking things that were just mildly suspicious. Where Aggressive relied strictly on whitelist which ended up being much less annoying while providing superior protection.

Rejzor, would you happen to have a sample (or some other repro case) where the moderate hardened mode blocks/blocked something the aggressive one didn't?
