Title: AvastSvc.exe using nearly 100% CPU
Post by: Bosty on September 21, 2019, 02:27:46 AM
So this started happening with the 19.7.2388 version.  It uses 90-100% of the CPU, which lags the computer.  If I restart the PC, it will be ok for a few hours, then goes to crap again.  I've tried the repair option and that doesn't do anything.  Right now, it uses 1,088,048K (memory) where it used to be 400,000K for years.  With the latest release, 19.8.2393, I still have this issue.  After watching it for a bit, it goes from 1,000,000K to 180,000K and back to 1,000,000K.  I'm thinking there must be some real-time scanning which is causing this issue that I could turn off.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT: Using Avast Free v.19.8.2393 - Win 10 Home, v.1803 - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz - 16GB RAM

Just Malwarebytes Free and Windows Firewall.  I've used Avast for at least 10-15 years.

1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

PS: Regarding Avast & Malwarebytes, see: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/200324-exclusions-for-avast-users/
