Title: Firewall Log / Windows
Post by: Mark553 on November 12, 2019, 05:54:53 PM
How do I enable Firewall Logging under WIndows?

I have an application that works if the firewall is off, does not if the firewall is on.
I have the application listed in a rule with all ports.

But my Firewall log is empty so I cant see what is being dropped.

Running Avast Internet Security
19.8.2393 (build 19.8.4793.541)

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure if you are pointing me to the comment that there is a bug in this version that will be fixed?
Or pointing me to the geek:area to turn on logging?

If what I am seeing is a bug, I'd still like to know how to turn on Firewall Logging. I didnt see that in the post you pointed me to unless I missed it.

Thanks

Ok thanks.. THere was one setting in geek mode I didnt have set so I set that and see if it helps.

This worked fine for over a year and then stopped and have been disabling the firewall when necessary (not good:)

Still would love to know how to get firewall logs though :)

Thanks

Not using the Avast Firewall, I don't know exactly where they might be or how detailed it may be.  But taking a wild guess they may be where other logs are located, C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log.

I know *where they are* :)

But they are empty :)

I want to know how to make it actually write to the logfiles.

Even going through their GUI and selecting Blocked Connections it comes up empty :(

The logs are not actually empty.

Avast Self Defence will not let you open the log file directly.

You either need to disable self-defence or copy and paste that log file somewhere else such as to the Desktop and then open it.

The path is C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\fwserv assuming the operating system is running on the C: drive.

Edit: Fixed typo.
