Post by: AyEs on January 15, 2020, 08:16:20 AM
Hi,

Can anyone tell where to locate my Avast Secure Browser profile? I am in the processing of transferring everything from my old PC to my new PC and wish to transfer all the browser settings from my old PC: bookmarks, history, open tabs etc. I have searched the web but can't find anything.......

Thanks

Hi,

You can find it here:
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\AVAST Software\Browser\User Data\Default

(Where <yourusername> is the account/user profile you use on windows)

Hello r@vast,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Am I correct in that all the folders and all the files in the Default folder need to be copied to the same file path on my new PC?

Thanks

Hi,
Only the files and folders you need needs to be copied to the same file path on your new PC.

If you wish you could copy the whole Default folder, however, it might be really large in size (maybe 1GB).

Hi r@vast,

Yes, its about 1.5GB. So can you provide some more advice on which files and folders would be needed for bookmarks, bookmarks bar, history and settings?

Is there any documentation anywhere on this?

Thanks

Hi Bob,

Thanks for you help, but I had already exported and imported bookmarks before posting to the forum. However, I have lost all the open tabs and add-ons. I was hoping there might be a simple copy that transfers everything over but it looks like if it is possible, the knowledge is not readily available. So, I will manually add the tabs and add-ons. Luckily there aren't too many of these. And I will go without the history. If I need it, I'll use my old PC.

It's a shame that there isn't any documentation for such a common task of transferring all browser data from an old PC to a new PC.

Regards

So apparently the following isn't working for you?

The one item I do not see in the Chrome Browser that's part of Chrome is the ability to sync.

Hello,  AyEs!

If you want to transfer from C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\AVAST Software\Browser\User Data\Default only bookmarks, bookmarks bar, history, tabs and settings, so you need to copy these files:

Bookmarks (inside of this file is Browser bar config too)
History
History-journal
Current session
Current tabs

And replace files on ypur new PC with these files

If you want also transfer extensions, you will need to copy folder Extensions and replace folder on your new PC with this folder  :)

If this will not work (it can happen if you use ASB for a really long time) - the only advise is to copy-replace the whole folder Default  :( cus configuration of browser was changing and some parts of files (like extensions etc) can locate inside of different folders.

have a nice day!
