Title: Leak Test Not detected !!!!
Post by: mouniernetwork on August 28, 2006, 05:27:10 PM
Hello,

I just tested my firewall yersterday with http://www.firewallleaktester.com I was surprized by the numerous leaks in my firewall (Ashampoo FireWall) but more importantly because the leak tests were not detected as virus or trojan or as anything by Avast so that would mean that any malware using those techniques to bypass the firewall would not be detected by Avast either. When you think about its really scary ,your computer can be in the process of been hacked right now and you wouldn't even know it. I would like to urge the wonderfull Alwil Team to add those leak test so that they are detected and we are protected or at least aware of the attack .So once again Alwil please detect those technique to by firewall as trojans.

The best antivirus is knowledege than its Avast  ;)

I had very different result with those tests.  See this

I wonder if others would be willing to run the tests and post their results too.

actually I got the same one as you except that for the ones in which avast causes a problem I paused the webshield and sometimes the standard shield just to run the test and most of those were failed by Ashampoo. What do you think about detecting all of those test or concept?? Because if a malware happended to "test" your computer and the Ashampoo firewall doesn't stop you wouldn't have a clue that your information is getting stollen or that a trojan\virus\malware is downloading on your machine right now.

If its possible to differentiate between the test and a real trojan then I would prefer avast! to not detect the test, but I don't know if that differentiation is possible in all cases.  Maybe Vlk or Igor could address this.

And what difference would it make to detect a benign test executable? None really...
Detecting such stuff is useless. However detecting it's method or shall we say it's actions is however possible. But you need engine like the one used in Norman or BitDefender where yu can monitor what files do on "real" level, not just pattern matching. But avast! is not using such scan engine as it's using a different approach...

Well thank you forthis precision Rejzor  ;)
Would it be considerable to add such engine to Avast ??
I must specify that i did mean the method should be detected ,now whether this test is detected or not is I agree useless as you said.
Is it possible with the current engine to detect such behavior and action ??
