Title: Low priority or pause
Post by: dynvec on February 04, 2020, 11:57:33 AM
Please help me. It's been HOURS that my computer have been having "hiccups", my normal programs (browser, etc.) works for a few seconds then stop completely, and something that worries me more than normal stalling is that the keyboard buffer contain is maxed at 12 characters or so; normally when programs stall, if the program had the focus I can type on & on and when it comes back to normal what was "blindly" typed is added real quick (don't you hate it when you've been "blindly" typing a whole paragraph just to realize just before stalling something else got the focus). AvastSvc.exe has been taking CPU at different rates, sometimes ~4%, other times ~15%, sometimes even ~65%, but the median seem to be ~30%.

Hours ago I've set my browser at high priority, but it helped little (if at all). I've then tried to change the avast processed to below normal or low and it wouldn't let me, which I kind of understand as virus could very well set it at low then set itself at high and keep messing with it. Is there a way through the program itself to change how much resource it take? And lastly can it either ?

Please help

Avast free 19.8.2393 (build 19.8.4257.552)
Win 7 SP 1 (build 7601)
No other security.
A good time before, this system was running AVG free.

So I did it, see attached image, and my system has been normal ever since. I don't know if the issue was related to AVG free remnants or if it was just the fact my system rebooted, but please let me know how to do as I asked in the OP, that is set avast to low priority or have it pause (either automated check for activity or manual).
