Title: spyware detection
Post by: User15 on August 30, 2006, 12:04:30 AM
avast only detects viruses and trojan horses but i'm almost positive i have spyware on my comp too. is there a way to set avast to detect this as well? also what is the advantage of moving a file/virus to the chest rather than simply deleting it?

You might want to read  HERE.  (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22592.0) There are other articles about this in the Avast search area. It's best to leave a infection in the chest until you find out if it is affecting a file that your O.S. might need to operate with. You may want to check out the program Ewido or A-Squared. These are free for your use.

There isn't a special module for spyware detection.
All protection that avast can give you is already there (most of it, antivirus and not antispyware).
I suggest Spyware Terminator for a resident antispyware (it could be used with avast, no conficts).
You can try ewido and a-squared (mostly antitrojan but also antispywares).

About the second question, Chest is safer because you can commite a mistake (or avast) and delete a wrong file: not infected (false positive) or a system must have file... then you won't boot, for instance.  :)

lol, I remember downloading spyware terminator when it was first released, great program. Took out a Trojan that norton couldn't even find. It also comes packed with Clam AV, and daily updates. I also use Adaware SE, Spyware Blaster for prevention, and Spybot: Search and Destroy. I'm pretty sure there are a couple more I'm leaving out, these are top of line.

I am also using Spyware Terminator, and like it. I did not install the Clam AV for fear of conflict with my AV.

 :) Hi User 15 ( & Others ) :

Concerning "Spyware Terminator" : would be advisable to
read through the "Spyware Terminator" thread in our
   "General " forum .
And for "trustworthy" antispyware products, view the info
    @ : www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm .

    Edit : I mistakenly typed a "_" where I should have put
             a "-"; now corrected .

link doesn't work to spyware warrior. and man, for some weird reason ewido resident shield will no longer work. i only downloaded it a day ago and already not working?! maybe it has a confliction with symantec? (i'm asking here cuz the ewido forum sucks.) also how come spybot search and destroy will only update on my Admin. account and not the guest account?

thanks a lot.
