Thanks for the new release :)

As the version number is same for latest beta, known issue about Windows 8.1 still remains?

Hi all!   I did my update this morning to the Avast software...it showed "successfully completed".  Restarted my pc, and now my Avast is showing" Firewall turned off"  When I attempt to turn it on, it pops up with "Firewall not available"....Any suggestions?

Its worse than that:  The latest version simply shuts off my access to the internet whether I try and 'turn on' the firewall (which is already on as windows firewall in windows 7), or I call for Avast to ignore the issue.  Either way, avast blocks all internet access.  So far I have had to turn off Avast to get on the internet.  LOVELY.  No virus protection.
I suppose I have to revert to the previous version or something (a long process) or I am without virus protection, is that correct?
While I am here, I am being spammed by your product even more than some viruses do.  I thought the whole point of a an antivirus / anti-malware product was to prevent getting spammed, and hacked by software.  Yours routinely spams me (for upgrades), and now it has 'hacked' my internet access.  Today I am not impressed.

New version on my Avast Premium Security 20.2.2401 (build 20.2.5130.561)
Message: Firewall is turned off
I tried to turn on, Avast shows Firewall not available!

My Windows 7 Pro Firewall is activated. I am connected to a Home Network not Public Network.
I guess - Windows Firewall must be deactivated and Avast Firewall can be activated?

Am i protected?  Avast said: YOU ARE UNPROTECTED

I am worried about this error.

RESOLVED. Avast Clear after Safe Boot, Install Avast Premium Security Offline. Same license of course.
I AM PROTECTED NOW.
Best wishes to all!

Hi,

First of all congratulations to Avast team for the new version  ;)

Unfortunately  :( I have a problem. i can´t see avast ssl certficate in work at any of my browsers, Edge chromium, Google Chrome, Firefox or Avast Secure Browser, all last updated versions (stable versions -non beta), win10Pro updated and everything else running normally.  I tried also to restart several times after installed the new version, i also tried to make a clean unistall for Avast with Avast Clear and also reinstalled Browser and finally also tried to install the certificate manually and not working at all.

Please give some kind of solution for this.

Kind Regards,

Filipe

Having had the new update yesterday 01/04/20 I received the Avast software "successfully completed".  Restarted my pc, and then had constant warning of " Firewall turned off"  When I attempt to turn it on, it gives message "Firewall not available". After reading this forum I tried the "Repair" facility but no success. Did a complete uninstall then new load of entire Avast Premium Security from website, now all good again.    Thank you for the forum and it's contributions - I find it a great help when encountering such problems.

Yeah, thank's a lot for the new version that broke the firewall for a lot of people. The only fix? Complete uninstall and new install...which wiped out all my carefully placed settings and exceptions and wasted 2 hours of my time. Again, thanks.  >:(

@David2283->

I have resolved this issue this way:
1.Safe Boot.
2.Avast Clear.
3.Install Avast Premium Security Offline.

You can always save your settings via the Menu:

Edit: Ah. I guess if you completely uninstall, settings go with it. That is not good if people are forced to do clean install after a new version update. Avast need to test more to avoid new version faults. Also look into restore settings shortcoming.

Exactly. Avast needs to take care of problems like this much more carefully.

Since yesterday i already had to fix 2 Installations with the cleaning tool on Business Computers, which cost me more than one hour of usually paid time.
Meanwhile E-Mails coming in, Calls etc. You get the idea.

Besides that the Configuration is vanishing into thin air and mainly Problems to reactivate The Suite - THIS IS A TOTAL NO-GO Avast!

Additionally there seems to be no way to get rid of useless Adverts for additional Products inside AVAST anymore.
Why exactly do i have to pay for a Premium Version with Ads?

I guess i will look for Alternatives once My License is running out, i simply can´t afford Programmers not doing their job properly.

You can disable the ads in the paid versions: Avast GUI -> Settings -> Personal Privacy

For those having a problem with the Firewall being turned off after the update, try this before you do a complete reinstall:

Open Avast Premium Security -> Press Menu in the Top Right -> Settings -> General -> Troubleshooting -> scroll down to Reset all settings and click on Reset to Default and reboot your PC

This is from Avast! Support, and it worked like a charm on both of my computers (PC). I tried the Repair and it didn't work, but this did. Hope it works for you!

Be safe!

Statistics are back after many years, but they are inferior to statistic which Avast used before. There is only some summary, we need live information what Avast doing right now. As i remember there was live statistic for each shield individually. I really dont understand why this feature was removed.

Hello. After updating avast to version 20.2.2401, he began to interfere with the work of discord.
The discord starts up normally, but at the same time I can not join the voice chat. I can write and see what others are writing.
I have already added discord to the Avast exceptions, deleted the firewall rules associated with it, so that the Avast will set them again. Nothing helps.
If I disable the avast firewall, the problem disappears. However, if I connect to voice chat with the firewall turned off and then turn it back on, the connection is interrupted.
As you understand, I can’t always sit with the firewall turned off. But I really need a discord. Especially considering that we communicate with friends only through discord.
I really hope for your help. Thank you in advance.

Windows 7 x64-bit, Discord version Stable 57177 (a2a33bd), Avast Premium Security 20.2.2401.

Same experience here after the upgrade. Avast firewall would not turn on with or without Windows 7 firewall on. Outlook could not receive (but would send) internet was blocked, and my VPN to a remote company server was blocked (openVPN connected and looked normal but I could not open any folders). Disabling all Avast shields allowed everything to work so it was clearly the issue. Repair did not help. Resetting to defaults as described by Nick B seemed to have worked.

I haven't checked everything for this update yet, I thought I was going to have the firewall disabled problem with Premium too, but no, everything went fine.
I wanted to clarify this because the problem doesn't seem to be general even if many have noticed it.

I was waiting for this update as I had detected something that did not convince me in the previous version (I had talked about it in another part of the forum). And instead:
The loading phase at PC startup is still slow
It is true that advertising can be deactivated in personal privacy but persists in the program interface where additional paid modules are offered
At the end of the network scan you are asked, in English! If you want to protect it and while obviously answering yes to subsequent scans the question is asked again!
Finally, the statistics interface is also in English!
I hope that I will not be offered the usual remedies: uninstallations with avastclear, clean installations ...
I tried them all and despite an Avast Premium Security license for the moment I decided to use Windows Defender.
I fear this moment will last a long time!

A complete re-install does seem to have fixed the problem but then again, so did removing the firewall component in the un-installer and re-adding it..

Anywho on to the reason for this post.. I have a current 10 unit 2 year premium license only bought a few months ago and would like to know having used the 10 units (not looking forward to re-installing 10 times) would it invalidate the license? and if so are AVAST willing to provide a fresh license free of charge??

As long as you are re-installing on the same computers, there shouldn't be any problems.
If you change computers, you need to remove one device before you can add a new one. That way you never have more than ten devices using that license.

Hi Chris and Asyn,
In the last Avast version, we have completely changed the architecture of the firewall engine to be faster and more stable. Unfortunately, the side effect of this change is that we do not have all the information needed to show the Connection view. However, we still plan to restore this view in the near future.

This new architecture has also effected casting. Casting only works when the firewall is turned off. (Sharing is set to allow)

Updating, Installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, firewall, access to Internet ...I have been using Avast for years and everytime there is a new version it's more and more complicated to get it work properly (see my post after the 20.1 release).
Best regards

With this version, every time my computer goes out of sleep mode , the firewall blocks access to the net. I have to:
- either disable/enable my network connection
- either disable the firewall, open my browser and enable the firewall
The repair didn't solve the problem, so I'll wait a little longer before trying a clean install.

Have the problems I reported here been resolved?

I would like to reinstall Avast Premiun Security but I have more than one doubt as to whether to do so since nobody has deigned to give an answer (and they are concrete and rather evident problems)!

Hello, all. Completed the update the other day and was also having the firewall issue but after a couple of clean uninstall's everything's fine. However, now my issue is with modifying firewall rules. It's taking forever to do so. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for developing and maintaining a solid product. Been a fan since the beginning. Orange is the way.

My Avast Pro 10-U license expire on April 27, today I renew it, it gave me the latest Avast Premium multi-devices V20.
I try activate the new subscription on my existing computer with the new activation code, but no luck it would not take it as valid code???

So I uninstall the old Avast, login to my account, download the new Avast Premium Security for Windows. 383MB exe file.
Try install it, but it never finish properly.  It always end itself with no error. No icon on desktop.
Tried uninstall, reboot, then start the new install three times. No help.
Later on I found that the AvastUI.exe never exist. The Avast services will not auto starts.

I remember years ago, there was some fool-proofed UNINSTALL program somewhere that will remove prior installation clean, would that help and where to get it now?
Would someone direct me how to solve this problem?

Thank You, Phi

Since the last program version update (20.2.2401 (build 20.2.5130.570)) I'm facing a new issue.

I keep my Firewall application setting rule as "Ask" instead of "Auto-Decide" because I prefer to keep track of which apps on my system are accessing the internet. So when Avast asks me about an app trying to access the internet, when I select "Allow" or "Block", I select 'remember this setting' for future access. That's pretty much the reason why I paid for Avast premium, for a customizable Firewall.

Since this update, the entire log of all the apps I had given custom settings to for over a year, got completely erased and Avast started asking me about every app all over again from scratch. That is still fine. But the annoying part is, Avast program is not even remembering the firewall app access settings. It keeps asking me for actions again and again for the same app every day! I get like 10-20 firewall notifications everyday, for the same .exe

Please fix this issue soon...

Hello,
since latest version Avast Premium Security 20.2.2401 (build 20.2.5130.570) I become ads to other Avast products.
It's hidden in message "Your PC is not working at max power" or "Your PC can work faster" or something about "Your IP and surfing can see anyone".
There is advertising of Avast Cleanup Premium or Avast SecureLine VPN.
It is shown in main windows and sometimes comes Pop-up window.
Where can I deactivate it?

No, it's not that.
There seems to be a problem today because I too have this screen with the offer boxes unchecked(They are and always have been).

I've updated today and the build is pretty stable.

The Password Protection is only available in the Premium Security version according to the changelog. Why does the Managed by Organization message appear on Browsers if the Free versions does not have the feature? Disabling QUIC scanning option does not work on Firefox.

Regarding password protecting Avast through Settings, the option "Require password only to access settings" still allows Protection Shields to be disabled via the UI and the tray icon. I don't like this approach, it should prevent disabling of protection features. The other option of "Require Password to Open Avast" does work but what if a user who did not know the password etc would like to run an on demand scan etc?

I like the new statistics - It would be nice to see a statistic on the amount of emails scanned too since there is for both File and Web Shields. A last streaming update time received would also be helpful in the Settings rather than having to manually check the defs folder.

IIRC "Managed by Organization" on Firefox is NOT connected to QUIC/HTTP3 scan, but to HTTPS scan (Certificates:ImportEnterpriseRoots=true).

Hi Chris and Asyn,
In the last Avast version, we have completely changed the architecture of the firewall engine to be faster and more stable. Unfortunately, the side effect of this change is that we do not have all the information needed to show the Connection view. However, we still plan to restore this view in the near future.
A workaround for displaying network connections is to run a "netstat -b" command prompt.

Post by: dhsilver20022 on April 19, 2020, 06:01:31 AM
So LudekS wasn't entirely faithful to the announcement of the "official program notes" of this new release.
To wit, he(?) indicates that the title of the official program notes is "new Avast version 20.2"; when in fact it reads: "Here's what's new for Avast Free Antivirus (v. 20.2)." So note well the emphasis on the Free version.
That difference is key to two crucial misleading & confusing elements in these official program notes (remember, we're supposed to be reading about "what's new for Avast Free Antivirus (v. 20.2))":

1) "✓  Password Protection - This new feature automagically secures passwords saved in your browsers. Find it in your Privacy menu (Premium Security only)."
So does that mean that the entire "Privacy Protection" feature is available in the "Premium Security" only? or that only in the "Premium Security" can we find it in the "Privacy menu"? After all, we're supposedly reading about the new features in the Free version, not the Premium version, right? So the inclusion of this feature in these official program notes should lead a reader to believe that Password Protection is newly included in the Free Version.
Or is there some other, more manipulative reason that Avast marketers & copywriters include it here?

2) "✓  Improved Firewall - We’ve added more fire to the wall for better stability (Premium Security only)."
A bit less confusing, this one, because the description of this feature is limited to one element (not also where to "find it"). But if the syntax is less confusing, the context remains misleading--& manipulative.
Again, the statement of this new feature is followed by a notice that it is available only in the "Premium Security". If so, why include it in the "official program notes of the Free Version 20.2?
Obviously, the marketers wish to miss no opportunity to advertise their Premium Security version.

Okay, I can understand that. But why leave readers feeling manipulated by placing this advertisement squarely in the context of the upgraded Free Version? It would leave a much sweeter taste--and be more clearly understandable--had they placed the descriptions of these two Premium features
1) underneath the Free version's actual upgraded features; and
2) set clearly apart from the Free Version’s upgrades by
   a) spacing; and
   b) titling as to what they really are.

But that layout and format would entail the kind of respect for their users that would require a true dedication to truth in advertising, which, based on these “official program notes”,
Avast distinctly lacks.

I wonder how you can understand that the entire "Privacy Protection" feature is available in the "Premium Security" only, it's clear enough that it only concerns the new password protection.
On the other hand, give us a link to release notes of other free products that can be upgraded to a paid product that differentiate the notes according to the product.
I would even go so far as to say that some products don't even add "paying product only" , for some, it is even difficult to have access to these notes.  ;)
The engine of avast antivirus products are the same (exactly the same build version number).
I don't see how that's embarrassing and even if it looks like marketing, it's perfectly normal, just like avast's policy to offer their paid products with popups on the free version as it has always been the case.

Since this update, when I log on to my computer, I am told that I am unprotected. When I click on the Avast icon, I get two notifications "firewall turned off" and "date incorrect".  I press "turn on" and "update date" and it doesn't turn on the firewall, and the date and time were already correct.  After several more presses of the "turn on" button, and about 25 minutes of inactivity, the status changes to "protected.

I attempted to repair Avast, via Control Panel and Avast Wizard, and it appeared to work, with a "protected" status when the PC was restarted at the end of the process. However, when I turned it on next day, the "unprotected" status returned.

I am a 76 year old, with limited computer literacy (email, banking, excel, word), still running on Microsoft 7 Professional, and although I have pulled off several articles from "Help" (Troubleshooting / Uninstall / Installing / Activating Avast Premium Security), but find them difficult to understand, and frankly I don't have the confidence to try them. I need either someone to talk me through it, or some clear instructions in plain english

Hello, I have a problem with this version.
The new "Browser Password Protection" feature looks disabled on the settings UI and I can't even enable it.
But somehow the feature is turned on in the background and now my backup software can't backup my password files (logins.json) while avast shields are enabled.
I would try turning it on and off to fix that but I can't even turn it on as the button doesn't do anything.

Please fix it with an update.

Back when I still could configure Smart Scan, I retooled it to be more of a full disk scan. Because I couldn't put a full scan front and center on the main window. Smart Scan lives there now.

Well, I get the feeling Smart Scan still does a full scan these days. Or can a dev tell me with certainty it is a fixed preset of settings that overrides whatever I once configured?
