Title: Mail Shield Bug Introduced-Avast Free Antivirus v. 20.2.2401-build 20.2.5130.571
Post by: Nilnix on April 28, 2020, 07:19:35 AM
I'd just like to mention that a bug was introduced in the above referenced Avast Antivirus version (ver. 20.2.2401 - build 20.2.5130.571). I have been using this antivirus software for several years and since the April 1, 2020 update from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I have been unable to use the Mail Shield with either Thunderbird or Pop Peeper e-mail clients. Avast interferes with the SSL connection and I can't download or send any e-mails with it enabled.

As a workaround, I disable this setting for 10 minutes under the Protection>Core Shields area. Up until the most recent update, the switch which turns from green to red would automatically switch itself off, i.e. turn back to green after 10 minutes. Now, disabling the core works, however, the switch never goes back to the green position (showing that the mail shield is enabled). Therefore, the user cannot visually determine whether the Mail Shield Core is enabled or disabled. Please fix this.

Thanks.

1. Avast GUI -> Settings -> Troubleshooting
2. Click on 'REPAIR APP'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

4. Reboot.

I appreciate your suggesting the "repair" feature, but it did not work. The problem returns after rebooting. I reported this problem as a "bug" (for lack of a better term) because I haven't been able to fix it myself. Do you know of anything else I can try to fix this?

In Thunderbird go to :  Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Config Editor and ensure security.enterprise_roots.enabled is set to true.
