Title: Dreadful problem with Avast disabling usb ports temporary
Post by: E Adame on May 21, 2020, 10:47:13 PM
I've used Avast for years on a Windows PC and never had this issue. Goes without saying if it continues then I will just simply stop my subscription and figure out another less intrusive anti virus.

So over the past few weeks I've been having issues when playing games with my keyboard or mouse just disconnecting from windows and then reconnecting in 2-3 seconds. This goes without saying that it makes playing games frustrating to the point that I haven't really been playing them. Well, today was a day off and I decided I wanted to play some Overwatch for an hour or two. My keyboard or mouse would disconnect every 5-10 mins while playing games at random. I decided to dig through the event viewer to see if I could match up times with my disconnections. Well I found the issue and going through Avast settings I can't seem to seem to figure out how to stop it.

Event Properties - Event 12, UserModePowerService

Process C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastSvc.exe (process ID:3392) reset policy scheme from {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c} to {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c}

This event occurs EVERYTIME I have this issue. Clearly Avast it doing something that is causing the usb device I'm using to stop working for a second or two.

Now, I like to keep Avast running since I'm usually doing other things like listening to music or browsing the internet while waiting for matches but I guess I could turn it off. But my question is why is Avast doing anything to my power service at all. This issue is fairly new and maybe it was due to an update to Avast. I have no clue so I'm going to keep an on this thread to see if there is a solution while looking into other anti-virus solutions that won't impede me.

Can't edit posts I see.

I want to make it clear that I have restarted my computer. Tried different usb ports. Tried reinstalling the drivers of the keyboard and mouse multiple times. Reinstalled the usb root hubs.

I'm going to be uninstalling Avast as of right now to just test to see if that process not running stops the disconnects.

Well it seems that simply uninstalling Avast fixed my issue. Shields down did not effect the issue so it seems it's something it does while it's active on any level. It was clearly an issue with the Anti Virus itself since I made no changes but the uninstall since I last tested it.

I'll keep an eye on the thread to see if anyone has a solution aside from uninstalling Avast whenever I want to play a game. Obviously this is not a solution and ultimately I will just have to go elsewhere for my anti virus software.

- Which Avast..? (Free/Pro/IS/Premium)
Premium and Cleanup Premium if that matters.

- Which version/build of Avast..?
I uninstalled it but I usually make sure to hit update every few days, so it's probably one of the most recent ones.

- OS..? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP/Build..?)
Windows 10 - 64 bit, Not sure what SP/Build refers to exactly. You asking for DxDiag for the system? I can do that.

- Other security related software installed..?
None, I've only used Avast.

- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast..?
None, this is a newly built PC. I built it on Black Friday.

2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

If the issue remains, follow instructions: https://support.avast.com/article/33/
