Title: AVAST REmoval
Post by: duffer2 on May 22, 2020, 05:37:20 PM
I have tried everything I can find to remove the  Avast Antivirus Clear Uninstall from my computer.  Deleting it in MSCONFIG only appears to hide it.  After deleting it and restarting I look at MSCONFIG and under the General Tab it is set for Selective Startup.   So I change it to Normal startup and restart.  the AVAST Antivirus Clear is back in the boot section.  So my reason to believe that deleting it in boot section is only changing msconfig to selective startup and not actually deleting it, only hiding it.

What is this ' Avast Antivirus Clear' that you mention  ?

Do you mean Avast CleanUp Premium a paid product  ?
If so this is the Avast CleanUp sub-forum https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=63.0

Did you originally remove it from the boot section of msconfig?

Attempting to uninstall FREE not premium.
I guess I was not clear in my post.   YES i have deleted it several times from the boot section of MSCONFIG.  All deleting appears to do it change the general tab to Selective Startup and hide the item that was deleted from the boot tab.  Changing the General TAB back to Normal and restarting make the item reappear in the boot tab.

The entry in MSConfig is usually associated with having elected to do an avast Boot Time scan, to boot into safe mode.

Ordinarily it shouldn't be there, it isn't in my list of Boot options (see attached screenshot), have you tried to run a boot-time scan recently ?

That entry is also there if you do a clean install. It should be removed automatically but, there have been exceptions.

Yes I have completed several boot scans, Kaspersky rescue disk, ESET rescue Trend Micro to mention three.  All successfully ran with no problems found.

Once that Boot Time scan is run and boots back to the normal start up that entry for the Avast Boot Scan should have been removed.

Should and actual are not the same.  Yes it should have been removed, but it is not.

Correct, I was only stating that this isn't normal.

Hi Dave, Spec8472 also did mention other options.

I didn't take a wander into the link to see about using the " 'bcdedit /delete' command."  Like a wander down memory lane, but does this seem extreme, I think so.

I guess we will have to see what the OP thinks of trying this or trying the Visual BCD Editor function if he can find a download location.
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Visual+BCD+Editor returns many.

At this point, we don't even know what caused the problem. :)
