Software Updater should be fixed later this week, this fix will be independent of the released version of the app (so no need to wait a few more weeks for 20.5, it should start behaving normally even with 20.4). Thanks for your patience.

Chrome is no longer managed by organisation, that means QUIC is enabled and scanned? Strange is for example youtube used QUIC and now always use TLS 1.3, maybe is QUIC disabled somewhere else?

My Computer still sometimes freeze on shutdown/restart. (Avast service was not properly shut down). Win 7 64bit, Avast free.

Once again, as with every Update in the last year, Avast has broken my internet connectivity.  I am forced to disable all shields in order to connect to the internet.  This time, however, multiple restarts isn't working. If there is a fix for this, that would be great.  I have restarted and shut down my PC several times to no avail.  Shutting down individual shields does not fix the issue, only disabling all shields allows me to access the internet.  Even Avast itself is unable to connect to the internet due to its own broken blocking.  Ironic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I've found the culprit at last.  Deactivating Avast Firewall will allow me internet access once again.  Here's hoping good 'ol Windows Firewall will be enough. -_-  Why am I paying for Avast again?

Deactivation the Avast Firewall is using a sledge hammer to crack a nut.  There are many settings in the Firewall that could interact an cause this.  What is your firewall set on Private or Public do you also use a VPN, etc.

Did you try an Avast Repair ?

I think you should take this into its own new topic as new program update topic, get big quick and this could get buried in it.

It seems like after updating the software to the build version 20.4.5312.561. The Riot Vanguard process is unable to execute on start up as it should, since it is a kernel mode driver. Even after adding an exception, I cannot find a way to get Riot Vanguard to run on startup again.
The other problem I run into is that my computer completely refuses to start up at times. All those issues started right after I was prompted to update the antivirus. I tried to uninstall then reinstall Riot Vanguard but with no success.
Is there anything I can try to fix my issue?

Same thing here on 2 different PCs, one with Windows 7 and another with Windows 10 ( Ver 1909 (build 18363.836)). Firewall block internet access.

Update: I just updated another PCs running Windows 10 version 2004 (insiders program build 19041.264), but this one is running AVG Internet Security, but same version (20.4.5312.561). Firewall is on but no problem with internet access.

Update 2: Thanks to Asyn got it all fixed up. Working fine now.

When I updated manually from the UI, I had "Update failed, something went wrong" error that was also mentioned by many for the 20.3 update also.

A second manual program update from the UI succeed.

Hi,

for those of you with Vanguard anti-cheat compatibility problem: we are preparing fix. As a temporary workaround, please disable the "hardware-assisted virtualization" in General->Troubleshooting settings.

Sorry for the trouble

Is this the same as the free Avast Premium Security trial I got with my laptop?  It's about to expire and I"m having a hell of a time finding out what it's going to cost me when it does.  Why isn't there a simple email on the Avast site or a chat option to answer simple questions?  I think I'm going to cancel just because of the difficulty of getting simple questions answered.

After updating to the latest version Avast service keeps spiking and bottleneck my cpu.

As soon as i start a new program, open a new tab in my browser, if i refresh a page in my browser, even opening avast itself takess ages etc.
So i can barely use my computer without lag, it takes me probably 10+ sec just to load a website or open a program/game.
As im writing this for no reason avast service just spiked to 90% cpu usage.

If any1 know a fix for this or something like that i would like to get an answer asap.

UPGRADING TO Avast 20.4.2410  broke my connection to the network and to internet. I found that the culprit is FIREWALL. It doesnt have to be disabled completely . In my case in SYSTEM RULES I found that "Allow Windows File and Printer Sharing" was set up as NOT CONFIGURED by the latest update. I put ENABLE and everything started working again. I think that is a software bug that must be fixed by AVAST.

The new version downloaded, and not I can not open, nor does my system recognize and PDF files. I can delete Adobe Reader DC and I can open the PDF through Chrome. These programs have worked together for me for years with no issue until the latest download. I can't even open Adobe Reader itself. I added it to exceptions and made sure it isn't blocked? Any ideas out there?

Since Avast updated I can no longer even start any MS Office 2013 program.  Windows just says it can't find the file even if I go to the directory and click on the executable.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office 2013 again but the behaviour persists and I can't get to my mails.  It's really frustrating how when Avast glitches it majorly impacts my computer usage.  Checking in the virus chest MS Office isn't listed - so how to I fix this - Uninstall Avast and try again (painful as all my passwords are in my mail account and I have lost operation of MS Outlook now!

As for your question please give more details on what you are experiencing, e.g. how did it kill it:
Are you getting any error messages, a screenshot could help us help you ?
What avast program are you using Avast Free, Avast Premium, etc. ?
Do you have any other avast programs installed and have you run any scans etc. ?

You guys have done something in the registry that blocks all Office 365 apps and Adobe Reader! This is awful. Will the Uninstall work?

You put something in the Debugger Key under each application in the registry.

Hi, I updated Avast program from the menu last week, it all went ok until it wanted to reboot. But my Windows 10.0.18363.900 did not boot any more. It's on VMware ESXi 6.7u3 and I figured out that the VM crashes due to some unsupported instruction. It took me a few days (booting into safe mode each time and playing with the settings of each Avast driver - there's a lot!) to figure out which Avast drivers have the problem - aswSnx and aswSP. So I disabled both and Windows can start but Avast UI cannot, it now says "UI Failed to load".

What is the quickest way to get Avast fully running again? At least my machine is usable again but not sure to what extent it is protected by Avast now. (And unfortunately, I had no VM snapshot of the machine. Next time I promise I'm going to create one!)

When I updated manually from the UI, I had "Update failed, something went wrong" error that was also mentioned by many for the 20.3 update also.

A second manual program update from the UI succeed.
with avast updated to the latest 20.5 version i get amany constant crashes of explorer process when i open the explorer icon rom the taskbar.
I was into hardmode, full reinstall and now get avast ui failed to load, the latest version is very  buggy

Avast 20.5 is a beta version, this topic is about the current regular release 20.4.2410.  So either you are posting in the wrong sub-forum (not the beta one) or you made a typo on the version you installed.

Guys,

This is the third time in as many years when Avast has nuked my machine and many others - why don't you take liability for your poor quality control and install adequate regression test capabilities.  There must be a dozen lessons you should have learnt here - have you?  Now whenever my Workstation goes bizarre I think what has Avast blown - and it's pretty much always you guys.  I have been in IT develop for 35 years now and I am lost at how you let such a powerful program nuke things it shouldn't because you haven't tested it adequately enough - plus don't have a feature - has avast killed something by accident capability - run a test and find out.  Instead we loose sleep and time and suffer anxiety and stress because you blew it with faulty software that caused many people real loss and you should make it up to us - like a money back or a year free subscription offer every time you drop the ball and nuke us - then maybe you would learn if you took it that seriously.

If you have been in IT development for 35 years, then you would know that developers need information to track down issues.  Not all systems have the same installations.

I guess this gets it off your chest and may give you some satisfaction, but it doesn't help pin down any issue that you are currently having.

Just complaining doesn't resolve the problem if there is no details to even try.

Before shooting the messenger, I'm an Avast user just like yourself who has been using Avast Free for over 16 years without any major along the way.  Any issues that I did Have I sent details and way back in the day of 64KB modems, sent a CD by mail because it would have taken an eternity to upload the dump files.

Good morning...

I am looking for advice / help on the new version NEW version: 20.1.8996

I am not sure where this post will be sent to or if it is in the right WEBforum area but I will apologize in advance as this is not a Avast option that I have had reason to use apart from today.

I updated my Avast premium security to the new version NEW version: 20.1.8996 a few days ago and all was well. The day after installation I decided to look at the new improvements and found the ' Trim operation ' for SSD's
I of course ran it, it took about 15 minutes to complete and all seemed well. My SSD useable drive space had increased by 5 GB so the trim option seemed to have done what it said until I went to shut down my Windows 7 PC.
My PC took 8 minutes to shut down when it always  does it in under 30 seconds. I looked at various options and settings which may have changed but I could find nothing. Further shutdown operations throughout the days made no change, it was still taking between 7 to 8 minutes to shutdown, I had also noticed it was taking an extra minute or so on startup.
Being very frustrated at these issues I decided to got restore back to 1 of 4 restore points that I always have available and restore my PC to to the last point to get rid of this irritating problem..

UNFORTUNATELY.... The 4 restore points had disappeared completely.. I have scanned and checked and they are nowhere to be found.. The only changes that have happened on my PC in the last week is the AVAST upgrade..I'm guessing that the extra 5 GB increase in my SSD's storage that I mentioned earlier could be the deleted space from my restore points caused by the new ' SSD Trim ' option being run after the upgrade.

Looking forward to any replies

Regards Wayne

Hi guys I have a issue that wasn't present on windows 10 1909, after installing version 2004 of Windows I find having avast installed as I have been using free version of avast since day one always stuck with u guys is causing my machine problems. Avast total takes a dump on my machine. I have been at it for 2 days re installing windows ect... Removing ram modules testing each stick of ram only to find out avast is the cause of the problem after doing some googling. Now the problem is having avast installed on my machine causes my applications not to respond or open, no matter what I click on my applications do nothing, and applications that are running freeze and I can't restart or shutdown my machine as the shutdown and restart become irresponsive. This is why I originally thought it was a ram issue. But soon as I came across a Microsoft thread telling people avast doesn't behave well with Windows v2004 I removed avast free antivirus everything now works as it should.

Could u kindly fix this issue as others with windows  v2004 and using avast are having the same problem. Thank u

I also was having problems with Avast20.4,  but only my Win7x86 build.  This is on a Pentium D820 desktop.  On my Win10 computers, 20.4 works OK

It was taking 3 minutes to shutdown the PC.  Event Viewer pegged the cause as Avast not properly closing.  Removing components I don't use did no good.  Repair did no good.  When I uninstalled Avast, shutdown took 20 seconds.  AVG20.4 had exactly the same problem.

I restored a backup that had Avast 20.1.  The Win7x86 build now shuts down in 20 seconds.  I disabled automatic Program updates.

I restored a backup that had Avast20.3.  Same bug as with 20.4.  I didn't have a backup with Avast20.2

It is not easy to roll-back Avast versions. If you use the online setup file for a prior version, it immediately updates to the lastest program version before you have a chance to disable it.  What's needed is an offline installer with the prior version, but I couldn't find a source.

Has my issue been addressed, I updated my windows machine to 2004 and avast didn't like that, at first I thought my ram was at fault as my programs refused to open and when I clicked on shutdown or restart nothing happened, I removed ram re seated and tested and found the issue still present. Then I did someone googling only to come across a Microsoft official post telling people to remove avast as it is not behaving friendly with avast, I removed avast and behold my machine worked as it should, i can link u the URL if u like just wanted to know since this is a confirmed issue by Microsoft has it been fixed by avast? Thank u
