Title: Avast Cleanup 20.1 tried to defrag my SSD
Post by: frg on June 10, 2020, 08:54:08 AM
Hello,

After updating Avast Cleanup to v. 20.1 (build 8977), I noticed that, instead of trimming my SSD (used for C:, other partitions use HDDs), it was defragging it!!!  >:(

As I did not succeed in killing the process, using the Task Manager, I rebooted my PC.
Next time it asks to handle my drives, I will have it ignore C:.

But there is definitively something wrong in the defrag function, that is advertised as being able to make the difference between SSD and HDD.

FYI, this PC is using the very last version of Windows 10 64b, totally up to date.
MB: Gigabyte GA-B250M-D2V
CPU: Intel i7-7600
SSD: Kingston SV300 120GB
Not very last gen hardware, but far from obsolete.

Regards,
François

Hello,

we apologize for that, it is definitely not the intended behavior.

Could you please send us logs so we can find out what happened and why your SSD disk was wrongly marked as to be defragmented?
You can simply send them by executing our log collector utility from this path C:\Program Files (x86)\AVAST Software\Avast Cleanup\tulogcollector.exe and once the logs are collected they will be automatically send to our server.
Once it is done, please let me know which email address you have used there so we can join the logs with your report here.

Thank you.

Thanks for you answer.

I just sent the report, and I put the link to this thread in my comment.
Is that enough, or should I send you my mail address via PM?

Hello,

thank you for the data, it seems that there is a bug in the current version which causes that we offer defragmentation for some types of SSD driver, which is a complete nonsense and we apologize for that.

In the meantime, please do not use this feature in case you have an SSD drive and wait for the fixed version we are currently working on and shall be released later this week.

Thank you for the understanding and your patience.
Best regards,
Avast Cleanup team.

There is something wrong in the defrag function. I'm looking forward to the next fixed version.
