Title: installation problem
Post by: footballfan on July 11, 2020, 05:07:20 PM
I have purchased a new laptop which runs Window 10 and I want to install Avast Free Anti-Virus software. I have downloaded the software from avast.com. I have followed all the usual steps: double click the executable after it finished downloading, click Install, click Yes to "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your devise? After all these, a small Avast window appears with a message "Your Avast Free Antivirus Installation is in progress. Do not turn off your computer". After it is done, it only produced an icon with the name avast_free_antivirus_setup_online_e2f on the desktop. When I click Window symbol on the lower left, I could not find Avast on the list. When I click control panel and then Programs and Features, I can see Avast Free Antivirus on the list but it does not have the usual orange Avast symbol (when I checked with my desktop with the same process, I did see an orange Avast symbol). Could anyone provide some insight why I am not able to install Avast on my new laptop? I greatly appreciate for your help.

David

Hi footballfan

Without going into deeper investigation, You should be aware that most new laptops will come with a 3rd. Party Antivirus already "Pre Installed" and needs to be removed using the Vendors Uninstall Utility before Avast is installed otherwise Conflicts are likely to happen.
Often times the Pre Installed Antivirus is McAfee software.
