Post by: macko1944 on July 16, 2020, 06:49:55 PM
On my 5 yr old netbook with Windows 7,I always used to unpower my modem after turning my computer off, believing that it is safer.I am not tech.savvy, please tell me if this is stupid,or should I continue to do it?Thanks very much!!!

Well, it saves power. So that's a plus. If you mean a cable modem then it depends if other machines in the network need internet. Or if it also provides VOIP, then turning the modem off also disables the phone.

If you are on copper and have an ADSL modem, I was once told by an ISP that that switching off your ADSL modem/router messes with line optimisation. You may not then get best speed or reliability on your line if you do that every night.
