We’re putting Avast Passwords on hold. Here’s why.
https://blog.avast.com/avast-passwords-eol-avast (https://blog.avast.com/avast-passwords-eol-avast)
The why, never explains an actual reason why this should be discontinued.
It describes the importance of using a password manager which is a bit strange considering that
the Avast product has worked well and there is no easy way to export the passwords currently saved in their product
to another PW Manager.
My saving grace is that I've always used LasstPass and didn't stop using it when Avast came out with their Passwords Manager.
The best advice I can offer is to start using one of the others like LastPass as soon as possible so it will populate with the passwords already saved
in the Avast PW Manager.
I'm very disappointed with this decision. :(
When the Avast PW Manager fills in a username and PW, LastPass does an auto capture like this,
(https://d1ka0itfguscri.cloudfront.net/Lh/2020/08/05/14/12/cYjh2lGfTu/preview.jpg)
Just select the Add button to get the information into your new PW Manager.
If you do the changeover early enough, your new PW Mgr should catch all your information without problems.

Hello. How did you get to that point to import passwords from avast.
I am still in pain after having to reset my phone to factory and not being able now for almost 3 days to access passwords that were backed up previously.
Support told me that I can recover in the PC but as I have used that free version for android I do not know how to do that. :-\ :(
Thank you in advance.

The problem is that many users are using the FREE version and there is no support for FREE users.
The only help is to post the problem here on the forum and hopefully someone from Avast will step up and assist.

The problem is that many users are using the FREE version and there is no support for FREE users.
Not sure if it depends on language, but the German support staff also offers help for APW free. :) Many thanks @KL..!! 8)

There isn't any way to submit a request for help unless you're using a paid version.

Well, as said, there is for German speaking users. No idea about other languages, though.

Are you stating that German speaking users can access support even if they only use the FREE version of Avast?

No, but (thanks to KL) there's a way to circumvent it. ;)

Sorry Asyn but unless it's easily available to all, it's not really something that will solve the current problem.
The problem will also increase as time goes by and people do more clean installs.

Right Bob, unfortunately I can't provide solutions for other languages.

I don't care why, just let me SEE my passwords.
I read an answer regarding Passwords that said: "To clarify. Even though Avast Passwords is not offered to new users, existing users will still have access to passwords.
Either I'm tech-retarded (yeah, I know) or this is not true. I've used free Avast on my desktop for years. From one day to the next, ALL of my passwords disappeared and I get the same notice everyone else has that the Passwords have been "discontinued". No amount of trying has allowed me to find any of them. And after hours wasted setting new passwords for several accounts, all I can do is curse Avast for NO WARNING that they were going to make all my passwords disappear.
So after that rant, does anyone know where all my passwords magically went and how I can retrieve them.

Hi,
Could you please make sure that the Avast Passwords component is installed.
Open Avast Premium Security and go to > Menu > Settings > General > Troubleshooting > ADD / MODIFY COMPONENTS > Passwords (old)
Make sure that it is enabled (ticked)
If not, enable it and Restart your device.

Please ... Can ... some Good Samaritan .... explain to us what REALLY happened to AVAST PASSWORDS .... ????
Just today I am paying for AVAST license upgrades and have been surprisingly and unpleasantly notified that AVAST PASSWORD HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED!
After reviewing the notes about it, I find that it has been discontinued ....
BUT that it has been incorporated into Avast Antivirus.
However I continue to read on the forum that has been discontinued ....
And in chat with AVAST technical support ... they told me that it won't work anymore .... (THEY DID NOT SAY THAT I WAS INSIDE THE AVAST ANTIVIRUS NOW)
So I think the issue should be MORE CLARIFIED.
We probably have more than 300 keys within AVAST PASSWORDS ....
and WE CANNOT LOSE THEM .... :'(
CAN WE PRINT THEM? PLEASE... :P
Cordially,
Mary

Hi,
Please note that Avast Passwords has been put on hold with the ultimate goal of adding this feature to Avast BreachGuard in the future. Those with an active license for Avast Passwords will automatically be migrated, once a solution has been integrated into Avast BreachGuard.
It is not available to new subscribers.
Since you have a subscription for Avast Passwords, it will still to work for you.
Currently, if your subscription expires it will also continue to work unless you uninstall Avast Premium Security.
To export your Avast Passwords data (and print them) please follow these steps.
1. Open Avast Premium Security on Windows
2. Go to Privacy > Passwords
3. Click on Settings
4. Click on Import / export data
5. Click on EXPORT TO FILE
6. Give the file a name and save it to a folder/location of your choice.
7. The file extension will be .json and you can right click on it and select Open with (e.g. Microsoft word, Notepad)

Nice, this is the second time Avast kills a password saving program that I was heavily using! Good that I was already thinking of switching to other - longer supported! - tools. I already switched my Android OS AV, because of the flipping licenced parts in and out, removing it from paid usage and so on!
Now I thinking of switching to an other PC-AV system, some are not so "flippy" with there existing and extrem used programs!
Sorry :-\

This has worked well for me, https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=236960.msg1556900#msg1556900
Currently LastPass and the Avast PW manager both have the same information and when the Avast product stops, LastPass will be the sole password manager.
-
You're totally right.
I neither I've having trouble with Avast password..
I need and want to change of cell and the only app in the WORLD that is difficult the whole process.
I having to use a new app, copying one by one.
This can be treated as amateurist of the company.

Avast Password does have an export feature. You can export your passwords to a .json file.
If your current PW Mgr. can except that format it should be easy to import.
If not, then one by one is the only method I know.
I ram Avast PW Mgr. and Last pass together for some time and LastPass learned
from Avast over time.
Currently they both have the same password history so I can stop Avast PW Mgr. at any time.

Is this still the case? I received an email today from Avast tech support saying "Please be advised that Avast Password manager has been discontinued by us since June 2020. This being said, at 1 point we will fully stop with the product. As you own a Avast Passwords license, you will be notified by our relevant department with further information about this in the near future".
Does this mean a new PW product release in the "near future" or "find another PW manager soon"?

It's currently still working for those that used it in the past. No guarantees for how long.
I've already migrated to Bitwarden (https://bitwarden.com/).

Understood. My license expires in June, and if a new product is in the "near future", I might consider sticking with avast. If not, then I'll probably move on. The PW manager was one of the reasons I was willing to pay for avast, and now pretty much all of their competitors include one in their suite. I see Bitwarden is free, but as they say "when something is free, YOU are the product".

do we still have hope that the development of avast passwords will one day resume?

Hi,
Not under its current name or form. Implementing a password manager into another application is still being looked into.

Hi,
It is not possible to say at this time.

Been using Avast for a few years now. I've paid for a suite of 5 licenses for a few apps and Password was one of the major reasons for me to use Avast.
I'm slowly moving my passwords over to another product and will stop issuing Avast. Their reluctance to further explain why they are putting password on hold is hinting at something more troubling underneath. You guys should re-log and update your passwords.
-
Hello,
Is avast free password manager affected for end of life? or is it just agent password?
I am using avast password manager in avast free antivirus.
-
Hi @tmlh, EOL means in this case that development of the product ended, also we don't show Passwords in new installations. There's an FAQ article to help you get it back, in case you switched to a new PC:
https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Troubleshoot-Passwords/
Until the decision about some possible future password management product is made, that's all I can say. In general, you don't have to worry about your stored data, but if you're planning to switch devices, format your PC or want to switch to another password manager, you should ask here or reach out to support.

Firefox shenanigans again! An update 98.0.01 has deleted the passwords addon I had previously gotten back up and running in an earlier update.
I have tried to reintgrate the addon through avast but nothing seems to be working.
-
Hi,
What happens when you try to add the extension (Privacy > Passwords > Settings > Browser Integration)? Can you add a screenshot, please? Which Avast version do you have?
-
I was using an add on with firefox called https everywhere which was killing the browser integration link. After disabling it for the link I was able to get it back. YAY me.
Why is the link on http instead of https?

[...] I've already migrated to Bitwarden (https://bitwarden.com/).
[...] I see Bitwarden is free, but as they say "when something is free, YOU are the product".
I'm a bit surprised that Avast doesn't mention Bitwarden in their blog article "How to pick the right password manager" as a possible candidate.
As I needed a -preferably free- password manager myself for some time now, I did an in depth study on the 'free' password managers.
Bitwarden is worth more than only looking at.
They're adepts of 'Zero Trust' security. In other words: they don't have any access at your passwords. Nor can they help you recovering your passwords if you forgot your Bitwarden password: elementary to Zero Trust security.
In the end, I moved from Keyring (initially for webOS, later for Android) to Bitwarden. Haven't regretted it since.
And if you're really serious about your password security, make sure your password manager provides in the possibility to enable MFA. Bitwarden does, however for a fee.
There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
Yes, there is. However if you want to complete your lunch with MFA-desert, Bitwarden asks a fee.
I went for desert, but that's everyone own choice.
