Has anyone else been having problems with Avast service consuming ridiculous resources? It's been inconsistent, but has been regularly spiking above 90% CPU usage, and is usually staying above 40-50%. I cannot stop the service and don't really want to uninstall Avast if I can avoid it. Any suggestions?

I am unable to find a version number for Avast, but it updated yesterday.

I have Malwarebytes installed, but I do not run it actively, I just use it to scan if I run into an issue. Neither it nor Avast found anything today.

I installed Avast when I got the computer, no other AV programs have run on it.

1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

The reinstall appears to have done the trick, thank you very much, particularly for the tip on using the uninstall tool from Avast.
