Title: Any problems with 4.7.892?
Post by: Vlk on September 26, 2006, 02:02:30 PM
Hi guys,

I'd like to hear your opinions on the new avast build, 4.7.892. So far, we haven't had much feedback - so I'm really curious if this is because it's so perfect or  because no one actually found a moment to report something... ;)

Thanks :)

I have just installed it, will check it more closer tonight. I am happy to see the swedish language :) (but I found a spelling error, will look after more later, where can I send some feedback about the swedish translation?)

Thanks for a great software!  :)

Keep up the good work!

Any typos in any language versions are welcome by me ;)  (e.g. as private message)
If you send me also the corrected version, I'll just fix (replace) the errors. If it's a bigger problem (I mean, something like "This term, occurring on almost every line, should be changed into some other term through the whole program"), I can forward your suggestions to the respective translator.
Thanks!

I did not find anything to report on XP SP2.
Maybe I have some time to test on Vista tomorrow  :)

Auto-Update worked fine.
Prompted to Re-Boot.
No problems at all . Nice work , all my settings have been retained , Email scanner works , inserts note of "clean message" as I've set it to previously .
Scanners all working very nicely as they should from prior experience , so all's well downunder  :)
Thanks for a great new Avast!  8)

Working fine for me, even with my new Comodo PF installed just Sunday!

FYI, no problems with Avast & new Comodo during/after that install, either.   :D
I only run Web, Standard, InternetEmail & Network Shields.  I turned off  the on-access scanners during the off-line CPF install, just to be safe.   All ran smoothly when I reboooted and no red x over a-ball.   ;) All 4 scanners running.   I was sure relieved, I can tell you.  :D

Just got it in this morning, so haven't really run it through its paces except for the email provider and standard shield.  But looks good so far.

Hello.

I've just sent a message to support but I'll try my luck here too.

I'm running 4.7.892 (French version).

Since this morning (software update), I cannot seem to be able to reply using Outlook 2002 to e-mails using MS-Word 2002. If I deactivate email protection in AVAST, then everything is fine. If I activate it again, then Outlook freezes. I'm running XP Pro (SP2) and both SP3s of Outlook and MS-WORD.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS: this all worked fine until this morning.

Check if the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager

And if your firewall is not blocking ashMaiSv.exe (Internet Mail provider).

Vlk,

Seems to me that 892 is perfect for Vista!!! Security Central alerts, Outlook 2007 plug-in and so on... Awesome!

Congratulations, you guys were one of the first programs to adapt perfectly to Vista, Beta2, then RC1... I still have a lot of imcompatible ones such as VNC, Nokia PC Suite and Sun Java (!!!), for example.

Regards,
Alex

Windows Vista RC1 build 5728 reports some irregularities (see picture).

Also, there is still a noticable delay after startup until avast is "ready" (i. e. the red brar removed from avast icon in tray).

But the resident protection (Standard Shield, in particular) works? For example, if you try to save eicar.com to your disk...

I have it installed on both my laptop and desktop and haven't ran into any problems with either of them but I usually don't run into any problems anyways.  Thanks for such a great program!

Try Sun Java (JRE) v 6.0 beta2 from here (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ea.jsp). That's fully compatible with Vista.

Hi Vlk,

I thought everything was fine until setting up some new computers at work today.  All 3 are 64 bit XP Pro boxes with dual core Pentium processors.  These are newly built so there is no prior security software of any kind, nor had any additional security software other than avast! been installed yet.

After installing avast! I was unable to install any Windows Updates at all.  I have not experienced this with any prior version of avast! so I assume it is specific this build.

At my request Windows was not updated by the builder (I wanted to exclude some updates and he was unwilling to take the time to do this).  The first update which gives access to the "new" update site (not so new anymore) downloaded but hung when it came time to install.  At this point I was not able to even scan for updates - the Microsoft page kept referring to Error  0X80070020.  The suggested work around for this error is to turn off the antivirus but I found uninstalling avast! was the only remedy.  This occurred on all 3 PC's but I cannot duplicate it on any of the existing computers which also have v 4.7.892.

Since there were a number of updates (59 high priority and 7 optional) the downloads occurred in stages.  On one machine I did try re-installing avast! between downloads to see if one of the updates would cure this, but the problem persisted to the end.

@AleCalixto: My pleasure!

@Vlk: Just a minor issue.. If i check "check for games before displaying popups", it disables Aero whenever it displays a popup.

Thank you.

My post is more informational than a request for help.  I was able to work around the problem by uninstalling avast! but if this could be avoided in the futurure ,,,

No problems noticed. Ran 4 eicar tests from this site, http://www.thepcmanwebsite.com/virus_test.shtml
and they were stopped in their tracks, even the double zipped one, and the download pages for them weren't even able to load. ("the page can not be displayed" message.)

Hi,

Your antivirus is pretty good. But there is one thing I don't like.
I can easily close all the services of antivirus via Task manager or any other software. Perhaps, that could do some virus, trojan or spyware application.

Thanks!

Hello :) Maybe this is not the right place for posting this ;)
Perhaps you could use the wishlist topic (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=12640.0) or make a new one about that ;)
As regarding the thing you doesn't like - yes avast! currently doesn't have selfprotection feature and all processes can be killed without a problems, but this will change in future (probably in avast! 5) ;)
If you want more info you could see HERE (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22184.0) - early version of the selfprotecting feature (avast process execution prevention module) ;)

Hey I would like to report a problemo :

After last update, I could not access IE - a message popped up asking me if I wanted to download the file 'www.google.com'

I turned off Avast and everything worked fine......so the problem must be there (I also updated my firewall at the same time mind you)

I've played around a bit and got the same question 'do you want to download bla bla bla' every time I want to access a page somewhere etc etc - but again after turing off Avast, I don't get the problem anymore. Please help  :o

Since installing this update, at startup I get error msgs "Avast will not be able to protect News NNTP Protocol) Error 10049".  And get same error repeated for SMTP, POP3 and IMAP.  I am Running WindowsXP Home SP2 (updates current).  Been running Avast more than two years with never a problem.  I've uninstalled/reinstalled this build a couple of times but problem recurs.  Any ideas?  Thanks.  :(

I had the same problem when my firewall blocked avast!. I've created a special rule for avast!, allowing all network and Internet connections for it, and the problem disappeared.

Yes, but it's not related only to the latest version - none of the official versions have the selfprotecting future. And this topic is about problems with the latest version only ;)

sorry for the off-topic  ::)
