Title: Avast Premium Security - screen seizure
Post by: Alex1063 on September 22, 2020, 04:31:46 PM
Today, I've started to have my screen taken over by an Avast standard interface (This computer is protected - green tick - smart scan - etc).  Closing or minimising the Avast window is only effective for a few seconds - after which it jumps back to be the front screen.

I have a paid membership valid until early November, so no reason for any service block.  I'm on Windows7, Firefox, using Avast 20.6.2420 (build 20.6.5495.588).  Rebooting doesn't help.  Putting in silent mode worked briefly, but now doesn't.

Can anyone help pls?
Whilst writing this message alone, I must have had to close it over 20 times.

Hi, thanks for responding.
I've updated now to latest version and rebooted, but the problem remains!

- Other security related software installed..?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast..?

None.  It's had Avast on from the start (and probably has Windows Defender built-in as its W7).  I took out 2 Avast subscriptions in 2018: 1 for the APS for 2 years (still live until Nov 2020) and another for the VPN for 1 yr (which expired in Nov 2019).

1. Download Avast Premium Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premium_security_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Hello! I'm having this very same issue. Very, very annoying! It will pop up even during games (what happened to silent mode?) and will interrupt of freeze them as the popup loads in. Exiting out/minimizing it does nothing. I've had avast for years and I'm about to uninstall it if this keeps up. The pop-ups happen completely intermittently and nothing specific seems to trigger them.
