Title: Avast, Thunderbird et Gmail
Post by: petiard.francois on November 06, 2020, 12:18:13 PM
Bonjour

Ma config :
Windows 10 pro 64 bits
Thunderbird 32bits 78.4.0
Avast Free 20.8.2432 (version 20.8.5684.604)

Depuis hier, je suis obligé d'arrêter Avast Mail pour pouvoir me connecter en IMAP sur GMail ou pour pouvoir envoyer un mail via smtp.gmail.com

Bug ?

Cordialement

François

This post which appears to be a related issue could possibly help.
<snip quote>
OP needs to change authentication method to OAuth2 in both incoming and outgoing (SMTP) servers.

EDIT:  If that doesn't work, see:  https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-78-faq#w_after-upgrading-to-thunderbird-78-i-cannot-get-or-send-email-messages (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-78-faq#w_after-upgrading-to-thunderbird-78-i-cannot-get-or-send-email-messages)

Good morning

I have exactly the same problem.

After upgrading to Thunderbird 78.4, none of my emails can send or receive mails.

I tried to lower the TLS security as described in the solution above. Not OK.

The only solution is to desactivate the AVAST mail agent.

Please can you help ?

Thanks
Didier

Have you tried setting the authentication to OAuth2?

Bonjour,
Voici la solution dans Avast :
Menu/paramètres/général/exceptions/ajouter une exception
Puis coller l'URL de la boite de réception gmail.
Pour moi, ça marche.
Bonne journée

Hello,
The solution in Avast is:
Menu/settings/general/exceptions/add an exception
Then paste the URL of the gmail inbox.
For me, it works.
Have a good day

Bonjour,
Pourriez vous me dire quel est l'URL Gmail à entrer, j'en ai essayé un mais ça n'améliore rien chez moi.
Merci

@Clientdunet. Please post here in English language, it is so easy to do an online translation using Google Translate as I have done here for you:

Hello,
Could you tell me what is the Gmail URL to enter, I tried one but it does not improve anything for me.
Thank you

Otherwise please post in French section here:

Bonjour
L'url est celle de la page de la boite de réception de gmail. Mais ce matin gmail fonctionne à nouveau dans thunderbird.

Hello,
The url is that of the gmail inbox page. But this morning gmail works again in thunderbird.

I been have simliar issue with Thunderbird and Avast for better part of year, Some times I have Disable Avast to get email to be received, some times I have do it to send emails. this on going issue threw more then years worth of avast build give or take some days it works some days it dont,  I think there some issue with definition updates cause if I force update it will work after word "if" there was actual definition update.

and before I am asked I everything is set to OAuth2

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-78-faq#w_after-upgrading-to-thunderbird-78-i-cannot-get-or-send-email-messages

I have not tried this this will be next thing I try but this issue was happen long before I got thunderbird 78 as far as i am aware Gmail is using TSL 1.2
