Title: HOW DO I UNDO ALL CHANGES!?!
Post by: archangel1313 on November 15, 2020, 05:42:58 PM
And NO...the "RESCUE CENTER" wasn't helpful.

I installed the trial version, and let it do it's thing...and it went and deleted several dozen gigabites of videos and pictures, without any indication that is was going to do so.  I tried the RESCUE CENTER undo options, and all the folders came back...EMPTY!

I don't even know what category the software decided this content fell under...but it wasn't specified that these files were going to be deleted, otherwise I wouldn't have let it proceed.  Since when are video and picture files considered "clutter", anyway?  Why aren't files like these identified, and separated from the other types of files that are slowing down your computer?  These files were irreplaceable...and this software simply deleted them all, without notification!!

Is there any way to fully restore my system to its previous condition, or are these file all gone for good?

System Restore point created before the cleanup?
Image backup created before the cleanup.

Image backup created before the cleanup.

What does that mean?

Is that something AVAST does automatically...or was I supposed to do that before using it?

Where do I find that out...and how do I restore to that point?

No, these are things that the user can and should consider doing.

In the Windows OS you can create a Restore Point at any time (and preferably before any major system change), click the Windows key on your keyboard.  Type Restore in that screen and you will see if brings up the Create a Restore point screen (amongst other options related to the term restore).

You can get a software program that will do an Image Backup (exact copy) of your system or parts of it.  Some are free others are paid options.

OMG!  This exact thing just happened to me....only it wasn't just all my pictures from over 20 years, it was also ALL my music files in iTunes!!! I tried the "Rescue Center" as well and the "Virus Chest" but there were no picture files or music files there or any other Word or Excel documents! Where did they all go???

Hi,

we are really sorry for what happened however our software does not even scan for any user related folders other than "Downloads" which is only visible as a potential you can clean in System Junk component but there is a warning dialog that you should consider deleting this folder as it might contain valuable data for you.

Do you please remember the path to the folders which were deleted?

Also for iTunes I think that you should be able to download all your music back from iTunes again, see this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211816 (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211816).

Anyway since we do not backup any files/folders deleted via System Junk/Browser data components I can only recommend to you trying out free software from our CCleaner brand called Recuva: https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva (https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva).

Why not include Check Boxes in the Cleanup Tools for Avast, like JV16 Powertools have, so the user can uncheck the items they DON'T want cleaned up?  That is the only reason why I won't use your Cleanup Tool, it's way to radical, and will cleanup software/apps that I have NO CHOICE to remove from the cleanup.
