Avast Premium Security supports 3 types of automatic updates:

-Streaming updates feed you with small packs of virus definitions frequently, before a full definition pack gets deployed.
-Full updates feed you with all necessary definitions.
-Program updates make sure you are running the latest version of Avast.

The default settings are for it to update automatically for Program and Virus Definitions.

They can however be modified by the user.
