I've noticed that Avast Service has been using an abnormally large amount of CPU lately. It seems to be related to visiting websites - it shoots up to over 60%, and sometimes over 90%, when I refresh a page in Chrome. I tried the fixes I found when I Googled it - checking for updates, repairing the program, and removing the cleanup tool - but I'm still having issues. Am I missing something? Is this normal? The processor is an AMD Ryzen 3 1200.

I'm having the same problem

I had this problem yesterday, not facing it today, but yes it definitely did happen.

Having the same high cpu usage problem. Been going on for several days now.
Avast version 20.5.2415 (build 20.5.5410.586) on Win 10 Pro HP 750-055xt Intel Core i7-4790 cpu at 3.6Ghz 8GB memory
Primarily it is AvastSvc.exe running at high cpu usage (10-90+ percent) with nothing going on otherwise. Reboot has not helped.

Asyn,
Updated Avast and it seems to be on its good behavior!
I don't understand why Avast hadn't pointed out that a new version was available. And after installing it, it did not suggest restarting. I restarted anyway and things seem back to normal.
Thanks,
Larry

Updated as well and is much better. Before update Avast was running CPU at 40 to 65 percent.
