Title: Disable avast before IE7 install!
Post by: polonus on October 13, 2006, 12:30:33 AM
Hi malware fighters,

As we are going to switch to IE7 in the near future as expected, you have to disable your anti-malware programs to install. Read here why?

Nothing unusual. If you know the source and you know the program,
It's a good idea to do that with most well known installations.
Read your instructions. Most of them ask you to shut down all other programs
before doing an install to avoid any conflicts.

I usually only do it if I run into an installation problem.  ;D

I shan't be disabling avast, for some time, I will be blocking the IE7 download for a few reasons.

One, the download size is likely to be huge on a dial-up connection.
Two, I fully intend to wait for at least three months after going gold to see what comes up in the various newsletters relating to an issues.
Three, since IE is an integral part of your OS I'm in no hurry to find a problem that may compromise my OS.
Four, since IE (any version) isn't my primary or even secondary browser I will look after my own security without relying on IE7 during any initial period after gold release.
