No unwanted surprises.  The update went smoothly.  As the man who jumped off the Empire State Building was heard to say as he passed the 70th floor, "So far, so good".  I keep a couple of spare Windows 10 systems in reserve to do the preliminary update installations so that we can be fairly confident that the reliability of systems we rely on are not going to be compromised.

Anyway, nice job Avast and thanks.  In spite of the occasional hiccup, it's the one antimalware system that I truly feel I can rely on, having used it since version 4.  Considering the infinite variations in Windows platforms (each individual one unique, many less than perfectly managed by users and with different Windows versions that Avast must necessarily be targeted at and become embedded in), it's remarkable how trouble free Avast is.

With these new update, many programs are being marked as "infected with Win32-Renamer-F" and moved to the Virus Chest - not allowing me to run them. This never happened before.  There's nothing suspicious or wrong with these .exe programs, and there's no addition to the original name of the files.

Perhaps you have been infected by a renaming trojan, one that example is the v virus.

I have tried to download the offline version of Premium Security (formerly Premier), from the link in forum.

If I Use chrome the page flashes and same page reappears.

If I use Avast Security Browser, all fine till I go to save and then get warning about security.

The online links there is no problem.

Well I'm sure you would know that there is an update cycle as not every user can be update at once.

Plus it has only been two days since release, the update cycle can be 7 days or more.

Good day.
I don’t know what you thought about it, but avast blocks google chrome tightly, it’s impossible to go online.
At the same time, there are no viruses and there were no, everything was scanned by other antiviruses, the browser was installed from scratch.
When disabled, avast google chrome works fine like other browsers

Unfortunately, even in this version the bug of the display of all scans has not been solved.

I had published the anomaly at the following link in the previous version:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=239611.60

Hope it gets fixed in the next version.

Thanks. ;)

I have an issue with this update - or better said my uncle has, and I'm solving it now (as an IT person).
Windows 10 - unknown release number.
Avast - unknown version, but updated occured Dec 14th 2020 (implies version 20.10).

The system is in a "automatic repair" loop.
The windows built in recovery tools can help me identify the issue.
The files aswArDisk.sys, asbidsh.sys, aswbuniv.sys, aswElam.sys, aswRvrt.sys and aswVmm.sys are all corrupted (all files in windows\system32\drivers\)
The files have a timestamp of Dec 14th 10:39 am, last time when the system still worked.
None of the boot options (safe mode, disable anti-malware, ...) work, always the same automatic repair loop.
If I move the affected files, I get a BSOD with stop code "Inaccessible Boot Device".

I can access the data via the recovery utilities, but there are also important applications with settings which would be lost with a clean install of windows.
Is there ANY way of recovering the system?

Best you start a new topic, this thread isn't meant for troubleshooting.

Last week I got Avast antivirus from EMUCoupon.com. I am Brisbanite and doing my studies right now. Avast is a very expensive antivirus so that's why I bought this with the use of discount code:-\. But I faced a problem ever since I install Avast. I received different types of errors when I am going to start one of my favorite games and these games I was playing for 3.5 years. Can you please suggest to me what can I do otherwise I will go to delete it?  :-[

I have been waiting on the phone for nearly an hour. I paid for a one year subscription. Every time I hit the "resolve" button, all it does is loop me back to the screen asking me to subscribe again!

I've migrated my Avast Premium Security to a new computer running Windows 10, but when I run the initial scan, once the system reaches Viruses and Malware, its just clocks after scanning for Malware.   No further progress happens even after running two+ hours.

Suggestions?

Suggestions?
Repair Avast:
1. Avast GUI -> Settings -> Troubleshooting
2. Click on 'REPAIR APP'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

Why is Block/Allow ONLY for Ransom Shield? and not for ALL Shields?

Why does Exceptions either BLOCK said File/folder/ etc from being scanned from ALL scans manual and shieilds,  I liked the "old" setting cause when I made Exceptions I could make for the Shield only only for specific shield

And I would REALLY appropriate if that function was BROUGHT BACK I been waiting from that since AVAST was so gracies to REMOVE "old" setting  menu...

I have 20.10.2442 (build 20.10.5824.618) on Windows x64 desktop and it freezes my computer. Files are opening and closing significantly longer as usual. For example, copying file 100 mb from one internal disk (hard drive) to another could take up to a minute. if I switch off Avast, it takes two seconds and I coulв open files much faster. I tried to repair Avast  via menu - Settings - Troubleshooting, but it did not help.

What other security related apps are running? What AV did you use prior to Avast and how was it removed?

I dont think Wifi inspector is accurate.

It it is listing 6 mac addresses connected that are NOT listed on my router.

IT is also listing my 2 hopper 3 "twice" now while both hopper 3 have 1 Joey attached to that is getting its "internet" from the hopper 3 them selves, those joeys are feed interent via wired MoCA from the those hoppers

And this is with a  "allow" Mac address setup so i have no clue where those 6 other mac adress are from They dont match the actual mac address on  the 2 joeys connected to 2 hopper 3

All these mac adress are list as IP6 none of which are connected to my router.

Also can not "remove" disconnected device

Avast has always done this and still does:
Status
"This computer is protected"
Menu, Settings, General, Update
"Virus definitions are not up to date"
Makes you think it is up to date, but is not!

Other problems:
Sometimes when you try to update, it acts like it is doing it and then does not.  It won't update until you wait a day or three and try again.
It does not always give an update notification.
Behavior Shield can kill vital functions on your computer.  Leave it off.
Sandbox can trash your computer!  Never us it.  Not worth the risk.
Have not taken the time to TS, but Thunderbird email links do not work after the last few Avast program updates.  Maybe that is a feature.
A lot of problems with PayPal even with it listed in the exceptions.  I tried Firefox and Chrome browsers.
It is a serious PITA dealing with third parties, multiple sites and logins.  There should be only 1 place and 1 login for all of Avast.

Issues with this new version's shields slowing my PC to a crawl:

Ever since this latest update, keeping the shields active slows my PC to a crawl and freezes browsers like Microsoft Edge and locks up Windows Explorer. Web pages have trouble even loading. As I'm typing this post, the smoothest way I can do it is disable all shields. This has only been happening since this latest update to the program.

My system Specs are as follows and it is an older AMD system:

AM3+ AMD FX 4100 Quad Core Processor.
AMD ATI 970 Northbridge chipset
16GB DDR 3 Memory
Dual Nvidia GTX 550 Ti video adapters.

I'm not only experiencing this issue on my main desktop, but my Intel based laptop as well that has a Core i7

Both running Windows 8.1 for the purpose of Media Center.

After I disable the shields, everything runs as normal.

Can someone please fix this bug?

Thank you.

Title: Will Avast Free Antivirus ever get back its comprehensive user interface?
Post by: ksalame23 on February 09, 2021, 03:32:52 AM
Hello, I've been using Avast Free Antivirus since the year 2010. My question is; will Avast Free Antivirus ever get back its comprehensive and light color theme user interface that it used to have back in the 2010-2016 releases? Avast used to have the most comprehensive user interface that displays the statistics of real-time protection. Avast used to display the number of scanned files, folders, amount of data tested in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, and terabytes when running an on-demand scan. Avast's Quick Scan feature was lightning fast and scans the objects that are loaded during operating system startup, physical memory (RAM), and boot sectors of the computer. Avast used to display the severity of each threat in the quarantine.

Not likely. "ever" is a very long time and things change over time.
