hi all
i had a problem on my computer which i was unaware off, how i noticed that i had a problem was when avast started to play up and would not run. because avast would not run i decided to uninstal and try reinstalling avast.
even after installing avast it would not run. ive since reinstalled avast in a different folder other that what it wanted to install. my problem is that im still stuck with the old avast folder that has .dll files in it that will not delete. ive tried everything but nothing works.
here is a list of the files that will not delete:-
AhResStd.dll
AhResWS.dll
AhRuiMai.dll
ahRuiMes.dll
AhRuiNS.dll
AhRuiOut.dll
ahRuiP2P.dll
AhRuiStd.dll
AhRuiWS.dll
ashBase.dll
ashCfgP.dll
and...
ashCfgT.dll
can anyone please tell me how to remove these files please.......

Hi, Crahser.
How about using Avast! uninstall utility (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html)?
-
I don't know what version you had when you experienced this, but I suggest you download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_uninstall_util.html) and save it to your HDD so you can find it later.
Run the uninstall utility, reboot, install the latest version, boot.
-
i have avast home edition
-
Sorry by version I was looking for version number, e.g. 4.7.892, etc. because some earlier versions (depending on OS win2k) protected the files and folders to a point that you couldn't access them.
-
ok but btw i downloaded that program you told me to download but it did not delete those .dll files
-
I would suggest to restart your computer in safe mode , with this mode you will be able to delete those files
-
i tried that but the computer just slowed right up and then said that it could not delete the files
-
That's rather strange. What error do you get when you try to delete these files? What operating system do you use?
-
im using windows xp
-
the error message i get is:-
cannot delete AhResStd.dll: Data Error (cyclic redundany check)
i get the same thing for each of the files i try to delete
-
As Igor mentions strange.
You could try these programs:
- Unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ is also good as it also has a few additional features to not only delete the files but stop any process that is stopping you from deleting a file.
Or
- MoveOnBoot http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html
-
neither of those programs work
-
Have you got
Windows Defender on your system? No, sorry it was Super Antispyware not Windows Defender, which locked the system. Might it be installed on your system by chance? (Edit) I was thinking of what DavidR said and searched the forum to come across this thread (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?&topic=23877.0)[/b][/color].
In any case, Igor is professional. If the above thread didn't help, please wait his reply.
-
it seems that the files appear to be locked
how can i unlock them to delete them
-
Unlocker is supposed to be able to unlock them (and or end the process locking them) and both should be able to delete on reboot, you have some very strange things going on in your system.
-
sorry but the link you sent me just seems to be on about the little ball problem in system tray

I think that 'Dinah' may have been thinking tha Windows Defender or a similar program might have been protecting these files, personally I don't think that is the problem.

Now one or other of them should be able to remove these files, if it doesn't it is the first time I have ever com accross this with unlocker.

ive downloaded both those programs but they will not delete the files

True, security apps come to my mind when I was thinking of something other than OS locking other apps. BTW, why do you quote the forum name by any chance? ;D
ive downloaded both those programs but they will not delete the files
Sorry to hear that. I agree that the situation is strange. Have you tried them with the combination of safe mode?
-
any ideas how i can unlock these files please
-
neither of those programs work
Try KillBox (www.killbox.net).
Or, in the last case, Delete FXP (http://www.jrtwine.com/).
-
i tried both of those programs but it keeps comming up with the same message as i earlier posted

Hey, this is different. You're saying that you COULD delete but it's coming back... that's another problem.
If a virus is replicant (coming and coming again), you should:
1) Disable System Restore on Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5BLN%5D;310405
2) Clean your temporary files.
3) Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.
4) Use a-squared (http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/), Free AVG Antispyware (http://www.ewido.net/en/), SUPERantispyware (http://www.superantispyware.com) or Spyware Terminator (http://www.spywareterminator.com/) (trojan removers).

i never said it keeps comming back!! i just CAN'T delete the files

Sorry, I've misunderstood.
Maybe the only possibility is running chkdsk (check disk) at boot time.
Go to My Computer, choose the partition (C:\) where the file is, choose Properties and then on the window that opens, click on Tools.
Check the disk and ask for all options of fixing.
Most probably you'll be asked to 'schedule' this running on the new boot. Accept it.
Boot.
-
nope that did not work still cant delete the files
-
Have You tried
Safe Mode
Admin. Rights
Check + Change File Permissions
Unlocker
Can You look at the File ? Avast or ?
-
nope that did not work still cant delete the files
But what is the exactly error message that you're receiving now?
For what reason can't you delete the files?
Did you try to delete them in Safe Mode using KillBox?
Are you logged as an administrator or this machine?
