Title: Avast and Web2Pop?
Post by: Khoril on January 27, 2004, 04:28:47 PM
Last march I tried Avast 4.0 and found it wasn't scanning incoming emails for viruses when they were downloaded thru Web2pop (atleast it wasn't catching them).

Does the latest version work with Web2pop?

(Avg doesn't catch them either altho nav does.)

I don't know Web2Pop but the following link should give you some insight or questions to add to the thread.

Yes it does, but the wizard thing doesn't set it up right  >:(.

Avast will listen on the local port 110, so run web2pop listening on something else (say 8110).

In your email client set pop3 server to 127.0.0.1 and the port (in OE advanced tab) to 110.

Add #localhost:8110 to the end of your username

That's it.

One other thing though, you might want to look at MrPostman.  It does the same as Web2Pop and it's opensource.  There aren't many modules for it yet, but I'd bet there soon will be.  I'm planning to write one for inbox.net unless someone beats me to it.
