Booted up my XP SP2 laptop this morning (latest AVAST version, Broadband connection) and got a strange error message:
"Last encountered error.
The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open."
Note that my connection to the Internet was good. I then tried a manual update and it worked.
Any idea as to what this error was all about?
Thanks,
Harvey

Are you sure you're using the last avast version?
This seems to be an old bug... http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=7042.msg55494#msg55494

Yes. Version 4.7.892.
It seems to be working now. The only thing I can think of is that I was trying out CyberHawk (a HIPS program) and it was affecting my system by way of slowdowns and problems with windows explorer. I have since removed CyberHawk.
Thanks,
Harvey

Thanks for posting...
Indeed, HIPS programs, if not well-managed and configurated will bring us more trouble than safety :(
Glad you've sorted the problem.
