what do you recommend i should do if a virus is found?

do i delete it, move it to the virus chest, or press repair?

can any of you briefly describe each one?

i downloaded a program, i press on it to install, then it said it was infected, so i deleted that using the avast option.

then i decided to run a standard scan of my computer afterwards, and it found a virus, so i pressed repair for that, and the scan continued afterwards.

how will i know if it was repaired or not?

you did the right thing...always try to repair the file forst.  then move it to chest if that doesn't work, then delete it if.

If you know it is a file that shoudl be delted just delte it.
