Title: Restrict scanning of directory
Post by: tech_ed on December 01, 2006, 07:24:27 AM
OK. I need to restrict access to a directory...
I am running avast 4.7 and in the standard shield window, I click on the "Customize button.
In the Resident Task Settings, I click on the Advanced tab.
I see the dialog box that shows a bunch of locations with wildcards set for restricting scanning.
I added the location I want to not be scanned
I have added:
d:\directoryname\*.*
d:\directoryname\*.exe
d:\directoryname\filename.exe
d:\directoryname\*
Yet the scanner insists on scanning the d:\directoryname directory!
It tags a file as a virus (when in fact, it is not...it's a Cell phone programming utility...) So when it scans, it stops on this file and never continues scanning (I have the scanning screensaver set as my scanner)

So. My question is, how do I tell this thing to NOT scan ANY file in the d:\directoryname directory?
Obviously, the above methods I list do NOT work!

well excluding the directory is only a temporary solution.
if you are sure the file is not a virus then submit the file to the Avast team so they fix the false detection

Send to virus@Avast.com
The ideal way to send such files is to compress them as a ZIP with the password 'virus' (so that the attachment is not deleted by some other antivirus software on the way).

There are two exclusion lists, actually. One is for Standard Shield - that's the one you changed, according to the description. It affects the resident protection, i.e. the moment when the execute the program.
The exclusion list for an on-demand scanner (such as the screen-saver, or the Simple User Interface), however, is elsewhere - in program settings / Exclusions page.
