Title: Avast Mobile detecting that Settings app 'contains malware'
Post by: copperspock on March 06, 2021, 09:08:56 PM
Avast Mobile detected the Settings app 'contains malware'. I downloaded the Malwarebytes app and did a scan with it, and it reported no malware. I'm hoping this is a false positive?

Can anyone confirm if it's a false positive please?

Hi,

If the file that has been detected is com.android.settings then it is most likely a false positive.
Could you please provide us with the hash (sha256) value of the application? You can use an app called VirusTotal. Please send the details via "Help and Feedback" in Avast Mobile Security or post it here.
- Install the VirusTotal app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funnycat.virustotal (edited)
- Open the app and scan your system
- Switch to "System"
- Locate the app and tap the "Sha256" value at the bottom

I have hit the same issue as reported here :-(
Are there any further insights if this is a false positive?

I am experiencing the same issue.
Edit: ran VirusTotal and it came back clean. The Sha256 is f2a3afb339a9ced7fa0806339f91faf17493a0b5bb35583132aba8ed9eaf5f41

Given this topic is over 1 year old, much has changed in one year.

I suggest you both follow the request by r@vast and hopefully he will have the information needed to investigate.
