Title: Email Protection, Firewall off, Avast still intercepts email.
Post by: mike.inflectra on March 09, 2021, 04:25:21 PM
Hey all -
Wondering if there's a setting I'm missing.

Under Core Shields, All are active except "Mail Shield". On that tab, all checkboxes are off.Firewall is disabled.

However, when our user's (including mine) email clients run and try to ping our email servers, our firewall software is reporting that AvastSvc is the application trying to connect - not the email client.
Here is a screenshot from one of my security laptops with another user-end firewall installed, showing one of the caught requests:

How do we turn off this seemingly VPN routing through Avast's network controller? With 'Firewall Off' and 'Email Protection' off, I would have figured that it wouldn't be interrupting or catching anything.

It would probably be a good idea to only use one resident AV.
Running both Avast and Eset isn't recommended.
this should help,

Uninstall Avast
Download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop http://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility
For Windows XP and Vista get the Avast Removal tool from here   https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/Uninstall-Antivirus/
Uninstall Avast via the control panel and follow the directions.
Run the Uninstall Utility and accept the reboot to safe mode
Once complete reboot your system.
A video to help you use the Avast Uninstall Utility is available at https://youtu.be/KD8LO8OxmvM

I appreciated this canned response, but, as previously stated, the ESET screenshot was a temporary install on my security laptop, to provide a screenshot of how Avast was still intercepting connections made to mail servers, even with Firewall and Mail Cores turned off.
All of our employee laptops, that do not have ESET installed still exhibit this issue, as reported on our company firewall hardware.
Thanks-Mike

Sorry Mike didn't realize this was a business account.
I've alerted Avast let's see if that helps.

Ah! No worries. :) Trust me, doing enough support in my time here, I know the pains and all. :)
