Title: WTF Avast? HDD completely locked up, Avast too greedy.
Post by: Roman Torchwick on March 20, 2021, 03:25:45 PM
This has been going on for about three months now, but recently it's gotten so bad I had to just uninstall, I couldn't even interact with my desktop it was so bad.

What causes this and why doesn't Avast have any brakes to prevent this from happening? Is a high speed SSD a hardware requirement now? Does Avast simply no longer support mechanical HDDs?

Which Operating System?

Free and Windows 10 Home Edition

Still there's no version that should use nearly 100% of an HDD's performance capacity, there's no reason for that, and there should be some mechanism to stop that from happening.

I don't know where you get the too greedy bit from, your image certainly doesn't show it.

Certainly not for HDD use and the RAM use is even lower.  Yes your HDD use is showing 100% (but not assigned to avast), nor does the CPU or Memory, but RAM at 132.4MB (just compare with your browser) is higher than I normally see on my system.

It is easier for those helping on the forums if you post, attach images in the topic, as I have here.

What s it that you are doing when you consider Avast to be hogging your HDD space ?
What other security based software do you have installed ?
