Title: Increasing Avast machine takeover and "hard sell"
Post by: shep39 on April 02, 2021, 06:20:47 PM
Newest version of driver updater telling me (again!) I've got numerous out of date drivers when Intel says (within 5 minutes!) I'm up to date. Getting fed up with the increasing hard sell from Avast, (driver updater, VPN, etc) especially when their core programme is now so extensive it is noticeably slowing down my slightly older dual core desktop machine. I didn't buy Avast to have it become the largest program suite outside of Win 10 and using so much of the resources that my hard drive light on the dual core is almost permanently red lighting. And yes, I have checked Task Manager to verify it IS Avast components which are causing the problem. Quad core laptop OK for now, but for how much longer? Anyone else having this problem?

Have you made the following adjustment?
Open the Avast User Interface then select
Menu> Settings> Personal Privacy
make sure you only share what you are comfortable in sharing.
Here is my selection,

I don't know if bob3160 is an Avast employee, but think he/she seems to have either misunderstood or deliberately misinterpreted my post - it is Avast itself which is doing the hard sell, so privacy settings are irrelevant! I don't want an updater from Avast which tells me lies and I don't want a VPN service from Avast when there are better products available elsewhere. Both these are chargeable services from Avast and I am getting tired of being constantly "offered" these so-called solutions. Additionally, the privacy settings (which, incidentally, I HAVE set to my liking!) makes no difference to the number of Avast components which are blitzing my hard drive.

I'm a product user like yourself. I don't see the ads you're talking about in the paid version.
There's probably more of a push if you're using the free version.
