For sure System Safety Monitor free worths...
Just two words: know what you're changing and blocking or you'll lock yourself. Host Based Intrusion Prevention System give us a lot of protection, specially zero-day attacks as you've written, but the user must know what he's doing. Too much safety and you lose resources to work in the computer  ;)
