Hi,

I did an update of avast and got the following answer both fc4 and fc6:
avast: can not initialize avast! engine: Unknown error no.42000

Does anyone has an idea?

If you search the board for 42000 you should find some information.
Anyway, you can try to repair your installation, downloading the last avast setup for Fedora Core and running it  ;)
