Imm running windows vista [beta build 5384]. I was using avast with if for about 6 months. Recently, after installing avast 4.7 [the newest version] i started facing problems.
Windows crashes [with a BSOD] and reboots whenever avast launches;
> It crashes at startup with avast's autostart. [so i disabled the tray monitor and prevented avast from starting at boot]
> It crashes whenever i launch avast maually.
Right now i have uninstalled avast.
What do i do to fix this problem?
Should i hunt for the older version of avast and install it?
This is what windows problem reports shows me:

Should i hunt for the older version of avast and install it?
In fact, we expect the last 4.7.942 version will work...
Maybe you should uninstall avast, use Avast Uninstall (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html) for complete uninstallation and then try to install again.
Any other antivirus is installed? Was in the past?
-
No other antivir was ever installed.
I have already used the uninstall tool
Ps: the older version was working fine.

Any other info from the BSOD?
Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially 'Errors'.
Please check the folder <avast>\data\log
Are there any files called unpXXXX there (where XXXX is a random number)?
If so, send them to vlk @ avast.com
They may contain more information about the problem (maybe a link to this thread).

Unfortunately, the new version doesn't work with Vista versions older than RC1.
You'll have to stick with the previous version of avast (you can download it from http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/) or update your Vista version to something more recent...
Thanks

4.7.892 is the last that works with old Vista betas, so that's your best bet.
Thanks
