Title: lost file
Post by: mcv80 on February 05, 2004, 09:20:43 AM
Help. I downloaded and ran the program. It told me i had a Trojan and wouldn't allow anything until I did something with it. The result is I have deleted Wndows\system\shell32.exe.
Can I undelete, or download from somewhere.
I cannot run any of my programs ???

There is no legal shell32.exe file. I guess it was a real trojan file.
The problem is that the file was probably associated to the executable extensions (i.e. it was started first whenever you ran anything) - and now, when it's gone, it fails.

Are you able to run regedit.exe somehow (e.g. by renaming it to .com or .pif) and starting it then?
If yes, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command and change the default value to "%1" %* (including the quote signs).
If there's a reference to the Shell32 even in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile\shell\open\command, change it again to "%1" %*.
