Title: Recommended software based Firewall?

Hi:

I am using an old version of McAfee firewall that came with my Dell pc.  Since my free subscription fo McAfee has expired, it has not updated the firewall?

If I am using Avast 4.7 Home and I am going to get some sort of spyware protection (maybe Webroot??), should I also have a software based Firewall program and if so, could someone provide some good recommendations?

Hi, there is nothing wrong with using an old version firewall if you like it and it works for you.
http://www.pctools.com/firewall/   Here is a new free firewall based on look n stop if you need something light on resources,only about 4mb memory Hope this helps,  tim

I would suggest you search the general forum for a topic PC Tools Firewall as it isn't a glowing testimony for it.

i recommend comodo firewall..its easy to use and very effective..zonealarm is good as well..u can see other freeware firewalls here http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwfirewall.html

I also like Comodo Firewall.

Not me :) I really recommend this great firewall to all people. :)

Comodo Firewall and avast! really works just fine together.

Hi DavidR, not sure if this is aimed at me or not, but I am  aware of other posts of this firewall.The only really negative post was from bob3160.
This firewall has worked well so far for me and along with a hips program the combined resources is still probably less than most other firewalls. :)
