Mina, do you think that Kerio is better and gives us better security than ZoneAlarm ? I use ZoneAlarm 4.5.538.000 free edition...

BTW, which one takes up less system resourses ?

Cheers !

IMHO ZA uses too much resources  :-\
regarding resources/memory usage:
KPF 2.1.5 < KPF 4.0.11 < ZA

Mina, the KPF 4.0.11 is stable? Isn't it a blootware (with all-in-one...)?  :(

you're 100% correct, I returned back to 2.1.5. It conflicted with my sound card driver.

It's now KPF 4.0.13.

I decided to give Kerio's updated version 4.0.13 a second chance (tried an earlier version which was full of bugs :o ).  It works for me and quite nicely too.   :D

I am using it as freeware (no web blocking, etc.) but I get that from Firefox .8 so that does not matter to me.

What I like is the added system security like you get with System Safety Monitor (which was very flaky on my system  :o ) or Abtrusion Protector (not free for those with broad band access :'(  ).

Been using it for three days with no problems and system resources are similar to ZoneAlarm (about 18,000 k).   ;D

McAfee has the most powerful and simple firewall. Version 5 is even better and has no problems with anything. Nice work :)

In your opinion is it better than ZoneAlarm Free Edition ? Which one uses less system resources ?

I know version 2, 3, 4 of mcafee use less system resources than ZA. but the latest version 5 I have no clue. I read somewhere that MacLover uses it mabye you can contact him

Wohoho Sygate Pro rox too ;D I had some problems with trial, but this one seems to work great. Driver level protection is cool!
You'd never belive what other firewalls are NOT blocking...
S.Z.Craftec,i recommend you to test it! Guess free one has this function too.

And it uses only 10Mb of RAM!

Hey little DigitalSheep from Slovenia, hehe  ;D

I took your advice regarding Sygate Firewall Free Edition. I'm testing it for last 2 days, and it really seems to work great, takes up less system resources than ZoneAlarm, and works without those avast!-update-problems, someone mentioned earlier in some other thread... Sygate asked me only twice for permission regarding avast! updates, and it asked me never again...

So far, so good... I'm starting to love it !  ;D

Ok, I'm not being payed from Zone Labs but the few resources more than Sygate worth for the better UI (as you stated in other forums, the GUI is important), reliability, simplicity...
Of course, I had no trouble with allowing avast! the access to update in ZA  8)

Oh, I forgot, I use Sygate for a while. It's a great personal firewall too.

True,ZoneAlarm has the nicest and best organized GUI,but Sygate is not far behind. Its not so colorful, but its very simple and when you get used to it,you wont change it ;)

OK, here I go now... it's my turn...

Sygate - GUI - score: 6 (scale 1-10)
ZoneAlarm - GUI -score: 3 (scale 1-10)

Why ? Sygate has very simple, but effective GUI, although I would make it little bit futuristic (not "gamey" style, but little bit more "tech" style) without taking so much system resources on behalf of fancy graphics. I know good way how to do it...  8)

ZoneAlarm works great, wonderful and it looks nice, actually very nice, but sometimes it's very, very boring... just like when you use Internet Explorer. I couldn't find any major problem working with IE, it's just kinda boring. That's why I started to use Mozilla Firefox and MyIE2.

ZoneAlarm should have smaller screen (working area), and that's the first thing I would change in there... second... that ugly big font.  :)

Cheers !

Try this:
Opera 7.23 (browser + very fast e-mail client with cool spamfilter)
WebWasher 3.3 (webfilter)
Sygate 5.5 Firewall (ok you have this one ;) )
avast! 4.1 (and this one too)

And Sygate has a nice feature that can hide Browser type and OS header when browsing. Better anonymity ;) Probably this is only for Pro version...
